Brian Neil Tracy

Brian Neil Tracy, 46, of Fort Myers, Fla., died on May 12, 2013 at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, Fla. He was born on January 17, 1967 in Ann Arbor, Mich., a son of Neil Stuart and Jojeane (Jagger) Tracy.A resident of Fort Myers for the past three years, he previously lived in Ann Arbor, Mich., where he worked as a telecommunications technician at a university.He is survived by his sons, Michael Tracy of Mich., and Tim Tracy of Ohio, his father, Neil S. Tracy of Fort Myers, Fla., along with his stepbrothers and stepsisters.A private service will be held by the family.

Thanks supporters of CIS Family Safety Night

To the Editor,Communities in Schools of the Tecumseh Area’s, CISTA, mission statement is “To surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.” Tecumseh is a wonderful community that definitely supports the programs that enrich the lives of children!The CISTA Family Safety Night was supported by Sandoval’s ATA, the Tecumseh Police Department, and LEEP (Law Enforcement Education Program). Master Sandoval and Miss Horn shared basic self-defense techniques with participants from all four elementary schools.

Harrison “Harry” Phillip Vischer Jr

Harrison “Harry” Phillip Vischer Jr., age 84, passed away suddenly at his home in Leonidas, Mich., on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, Washington Twp., on October 13, 1928 the son of Mr. Harrison Phillip Sr. and Hazel May (Patterson) Vischer.Mr. Vischer was a long time Lenawee County resident and had recently moved to Southwestern Michigan. Harry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On August 23, 1952 Harry was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Brighton who preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2003.

‘Heads At Ease’ project for U.S. military receives local support

An article in a Country Woman magazine caught Donna Murphy’s eye one day as she read the publication. “It was about a group that made pillowcases for troops,” said Murphy. “I didn’t think much about it at first, then the thought occurred to me that we have a lot of extra fabric from our own projects.” Murphy said she and her mom, Pauline Murphy, are both quilters, and her cousins, Linda Hewlett and Nancy Cadmus, both sew.

Properties marked for utility ID purposes

Some properties on S. Maumee Street recently were marked and had residents wondering if something was being added to the monitoring system set up on the former Tecumseh Products property. In 2011, a Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB) was installed to filter a plume of contaminated groundwater found in the area in 2009.

Tecumseh boys lacrosse team sets state record for goals scored in season

Tecumseh’s varsity boys lacrosse team coach Steve Ayre announced that his Indians set the state record for goals scored in a single season during their game against Lincoln on Wednesday, May 15. The Indians finished their 14-game regular season with 238 goals easily eclipsing Ann Arbor Pioneer's 213 goals in 22 games (2011).Another accomplishment for the Indians was capturing their first Southeastern Conference White Division championship.

Editorial: City should lease space for livery

The beauty of the River Raisin has caught the eye of a West Virginia businessman who has an interest in leasing a vacant garage at the community center for a start-up livery business for canoe and kayak rentals.Tecumseh City Council has an opportunity to assist in bringing the new business to town after it was informed of the proposal by local attorney Chuck Gross, a long-time supporter of Indian Crossing Trails Park and a water recreation enthusiast.The proposition could be a win-win for the city as it would receive revenue from the lease and be free of managing its own livery, which isn’t

Historical society racing to save towers from demolition

From 1924 until 1955 visitors to the Irish Hills had to choose between two towers where they could see for miles. The chance to gaze over seven miles and 10 lakes may never happen again unless the Irish Hills Historical Society is able to raise $200,000 to renovate the landmark Irish Hills Towers.A Dangerous Building Hearing was held in Cambridge Township on April 24, which presented the results of an April 17 building inspection by Dailey Engineering. The towers are considered structurally unsound due to lack of maintenance and weather protection.

Medical payments for wrestlers raise questions for board

The issue of reimbursement for medical expenses resulting from a skin infection outbreak among Tecumseh wrestlers this season was revisited during the public comment segment of Monday night’s Tecumseh School Board meeting.Pat Pelham, the father of two varsity wrestlers, asked the board if it was considering paying the medical bills of the wrestlers who contracted the rash as it had done in the case of one of the wrestlers.Board President Ed Tritt responded that board representatives had met with the former wrestling coach Tony Greathouse and Supt.

Tribe records three ties at Canton invite

Tecumseh’s varsity softball team played in Canton’s Tournament on Saturday, May 11 and recorded three ties.The Indians tied Belleville 9-9, Canton 2-2 and Plymouth 5-5.Belleville and Plymouth advanced to the seven-team tournament’s final.“Having played against three pretty good teams, three ties is not all bad, but the disappointment comes with the fact that we made one or two mistakes in each game that cost us a chance at winning all three games,” said Tecumseh head coach Jeff Nowak.

Clinton swings past Royals

Clinton’s varsity boys golf team defeated visiting Blissfield 165-196 in a dual match at the Rustic Glen Golf Club on Monday, May 13.Luke Schaffner carded 38 to lead Clinton while Josh Donahey and Ryan Karapas each scored 42. Kaden Kelly carded 43 for Clinton.Clinton is scheduled to host a Tri-County Conference (TCC) Jamboree on Friday, May 17 beginning at 2:30 p.m.Clinton placed first at the Woodlawn Golf Course on Friday, May 10, in a TCC Jamboree hosted by Sand Creek. Clinton totaled 170 while Whitmore Lake carded 172.

Indians beat Adrian in home quad meet

Tecumseh’s varsity boys golf team placed third in a quad meet on Monday, May 13, at home.The Indians beat rival Adrian 185-197 to place third. Saline placed first in the event with a score of 155 while Ann Arbor Pioneer was second with 162. Cam Clarke lead the Indians with a round of 44 while Drew Kapnick and Ian Quick finished two strokes back of their teammate with 46 each. Josh Campbell carded a 49 for Tecumseh.The Indians were scheduled to play Dexter at home on Wednesday, May 15. On Friday, May 17, Tecumseh is scheduled to play a make-up round against Ypsilanti at Pine View Golf Club.

Ottis Cantrell

Ottis Cantrell, our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away at age 90 on May 8, 2013 in Arlington, Wash. Ottis was born in 1922 in Henson Springs, Ala., the youngest of seven children. A member of the Greatest Generation, he served in WWII from 1942 to 1946 in the Army Air Corp. After WWII, Ottis married Audra Faye Carrouth, the love of his life. He was married 66 years and raised six children; Dan, Mike, Marce, Mark, Kim and Rob, near Tecumseh, Mich.

Katherine Joanne McKenzie

Katherine Joanne McKenzie, age, 71 of Tecumseh died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. She was born July 28, 1941 in Franklin Township to Harold and Dortha (VanWinkle) Sherrard.
