May 29th

To the Editor,

I start my summer every year with the ritual Memorial Day parade. Time is spent reflecting on those who gave their life in the defense of our country, our constitution, our way of life and yes, our freedom to speak out.

In this culture of reality TV we are exposed and conditioned to see it all, but I was not able to appreciate the “shock value” of the hearse in Monday’s parade complete with a flag draped coffin.

This was in very poor taste; please don’t do it again.

To the Editor,

I would like to thank an anonymous person from the community.  After recently winning the SEC title, a couple players and I went out to eat afterwards and were generously treated to our meal by a mom and her son who was in his tee ball uniform.  I hope he has many fun experiences in baseball just like the team and I have had these past couple of years.  That just topped off a great day for us.  Thanks again.

To the Editor,

Thank you for publishing the article on mortgage foreclosures in our area. It is a story that needs to be told. Joseph Stalin once said,  “A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic.” Your story spotlighted the tragedy and pain many of our neighbors are going through in these difficult times.

To the Editor,

The Tecumseh H.O.P.E. Reading Program recently wrapped up the year with a mentor appreciation brunch. The theme was, “Mentors Light the Way.”

The coordinators would like to thank the following businesses for allowing work release for their employees to volunteer: Amazing Creations, Cyltec, Communities in Schools, Edward Jones, Edward Surovell, Kiwanis, National Honor Society, PEO Sorority, Siena Heights, Tecumseh Clinton Ford, Tecumseh City Hall, Tecumseh District Library, Tecumseh Parks and Rec, United Bank and Trust and Wacker.

We would also like to thank all of the new and seasoned mentors who have helped make this program a success. Mark your calendars — the H.O.P.E. program will be looking forward to starting up the new school year in October 2008.
Thank you again to all.
