The Simple Joy of a Child
Have you ever gotten to watch a child's
eyes light up with delight? I had just such an opportunity last
Sunday afternoon. I am the pastor of the Tecumseh Friends church, so
Sunday can be a bit hectic for me. Last Sunday, however while my
daughter and wife took a nap, my son and I headed over to the flea
market on the Tecumseh-Clinton Hwy to check out the car show. I
could not be happier that my son age 7 has taken such an interest in
classic Detroit muscle, and there was plenty to see. I was partial
to the 68 Nova, while Gabe was quite taken with the Mustangs. After
the trophies were handed out we walked over to get an ice-cream cone
(don't tell Mom). We took our sweet treats out back and had the good
fortune to see the sky divers take off . And later land. A big thank you goes out to
the “Sky Dive Tecumseh” folks for unknowingly providing my son
and I the perfect eye-widening end to a great afternoon. Delight in
a child's eyes is a rare and wonderful gift. I received that gift
over and over again this past Sunday. When was the last time you saw
that in your own kid's eyes I wonder? Kids don't need expensive toys
and excessively planned days, just your being there is enough. A
lesson I relearned and wanted to pass along to you. Thanks Tecumseh!
