EAST LANSING -  GradeCheck.net, a Michigan startup company that reinforces the academic aspect of school sports, has earned a rare endorsement from the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

GradeCheck.net provides an Internet-based program that assists students, parents, school counselors and administrators monitor academic progress and helps high school students qualify for National Collegiate Athletic Association member and other college scholarships. In 2008, GradeCheck worked with educators and parents to facilitate more than $2 million in scholarships for their students.

GradeCheck.net founder Shelia McBride states: "Our innovative, national system provides benefits to all high school students. We provide a national college admissions information database, an applications checklist, a scholarship application checklist, as well as a Grade Point Average calculator. These tools help students know if they are on track to meet the entrance requirements of a college or university long before they start submitting applications."

GradeCheck.net will be introduced to MHSAA constituents at upcoming Athletic Director In-Service programs, Captains Clinics and throughout the Association's year-round "Reaching Higher" initiative intended to help students aspire to and reach their full potential in high school athletics.

Connie G. Roe, 58, of Clinton, passed away June 26, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center.  Connie was born April 19, 1951 in Jackson, Mich., the daughter of Richard and Hope (Hurley) Berlin.   On Dec. 12, 1970, she married Douglas Roe in Clinton.   

Connie was a 1969 graduate of Clinton High School and went on to attend Michigan State University.  She was an administrative assistant for Roe Brothers Excavating and also employed by Mr. and Mrs. James Sheneman.

Connie loved gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and raising chickens.
Besides her husband, Douglas, she is survived by one daughter, Mary (Robb) Snow of Canton and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Pam and Janelle.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian  with the Rev. Richard Bruce officiating.  Burial followed in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh.

Paul F. Roekle, 97, died Friday, June 26, 2009 in Parkview Hospital Hospice Unit in Fort Wayne, Indiana after a short illness.

He was born February 11, 1912 in Palmyra, Michigan to Gottlob and Martha (Wellnitz) Roekle.  Paul graduated from Adrian High School in 1929 and was employed by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for several years.  On June 6, 1934, he married Virginia (Tyke) Sherman of Adrian.  She preceded him in death on December 8, 1998.  In 1963, Paul and Tyke opened Tecumseh Office Supply (now Quanits Corporation), and Paul retired in 1977.  Paul was active in The First Baptist Church in Adrian and Tecumseh for many years.  He was an avid bridge player.  He was a 32nd degree mason.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and father.  Paul is survived by three daughters, Sharon Harris of Adrian, Jan (Don) McCrady of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Beth (Jerry) Fox of Clayton, one son Bryce (Reyna) of Berkley, Michigan, seven grandchildren, Lisa Kuney, Alan, Brian and Diane Copeland, Tami Gooding, Jodi Uloth and Meghan Roekle, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth Smith of Adrian and Marie Kahn of Ashton, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
