Tecumseh seeking new athletic director

By MICKEY ALVARADOJust weeks before the start of the 2013-2014 school year, Tecumseh High School (THS) is without an athletic director as Clinton Public School’s announced on Wednesday, July 31, they had hired Casey Randolph as the Redskins’ new athletic director (AD).Randolph was hired as AD by Tecumseh in 2010, replacing Griff Mills, who was promoted to the Tecumseh High School principal position. Randolph also carried the title of assistant principal at THS.

William H. “Bill” Osburn, Sr.

William H. “Bill” Osburn, Sr., age 91, of Macon, passed away August 5, 2013, at home under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Hospice. Bill was born October 31, 1921 in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Garland and Geraldine (Orr) Osburn. His wife of 39 years, Nobuko King, survives.Bill was a World War II veteran of the 8th Air Force, serving in England. After the war, he returned to his job at the Tecumseh Products Co., retiring 44 years later in 1984. Shortly after “retirement,” he went to work at Mitchell Memorial Park in Raisin Township until age 88.

Joseph Harris Gregory

Joseph Harris Gregory, 78, of Tecumseh, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family and under the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born on May 11, 1935 in Cades Cove, Tenn., the son of Virgil C. and Icyle (McCaulley) Gregory. Joe married Sandra J. Simmons on May 24, 1958 and she survives.Joe graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1954 and pursued his passion at the Toledo Barber School. He became a skilled barber in Tecumseh who owned and operated Gregory’s Barber Shop for 55 Years.

Clinton Community School's administration readies for the new school year

The new school year is only weeks away, and Clinton Community Schools will start with new faces in four of five administrative positions in the district. Leading the group is Superintendent Sean McNatt with Kevin Beazley as the new Clinton High School Principal, Don Dunham returning as Clinton Middle School Principal, Mary Fisher as the new Clinton Elementary Principal, and Casey Randolph as the new Clinton Athletic Director.“The administration team is coming together for the benefit of the students,” said McNatt. “The students’ needs are the most important to us.

Jacobs' 50 years of flight feted by FAA

Hazel Jacobs fell in love with flying right around the same time she fell in love. The first boy picked her up for a date in a plane, turned the plane upside down causing her poodle skirt to fly up.Jacobs was not impressed, although the two are still close friends. When Richard Jacobs took her up in his plane, he kept her upright, and the two became inseparable.During her college years at Siena Heights, Jacobs and her friends spent many hours in the air, traveling all over the area.

Fields become outdoor classrooms for new technologies

For one full day each August, two Lenawee County farms become outdoor classrooms known as The Center For Excellence (CFE), and farmers and others with agricultural interests from all around are invited. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, with registration beginning at 8 a.m.

Honduras mission members have Tecumseh connection

When a mission team from Crossroads Community Church in Adrian flew to La Ceiba, Honduras on June 29, a little bit of Tecumseh went with them. This year’s team included Tecumseh residents Jesse and Cassie (Pringle) Turner, Peggy Romano, wife of Tecumseh High School (THS) Football coach, Al Romano, and Lee Prettyman, who grew up in Tecumseh, and his son, Raymond. The church, founded by Pastor Scott Winstead, who also grew up in Tecumseh, works with an organization called Great Commission Latin America, and partners with Iglesia Gran Comission, a church in Honduras.

Spain sending girl back to U.S. next week

The Hardy family of Clinton was overjoyed to learn their granddaughter, Rachel, is returning sooner than expected, and her aunt and guardian, Christina Walters does not have to make the costly trip to Spain to bring Rachel home. Rachel’s mother, Pam Hardy, left the little girl with persons unknown in Spain while she transported drugs in Central Europe.

Phyllis Jean Simon

Phyllis Jean Simon, age 81 of Tecumseh, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 26, 1931, in Fayette, Ohio, to Ulna and Elvira (Rohrs) Borton. On February 26, 1952, in Assumption, Ohio, she married Herbert F. Simon, and he survives. Phyllis graduated from Gorham Fayette High School in 1949. She retired in 1993 after 20 years working for the Tecumseh Public Schools and the LISD as a bus driver.

John R. Wanzeck

John R. Wanzeck, age 84 of Brea, Calif., passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013. He was born on August 1, 1928, in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was married to Sally Dolan and she preceded him in death on January 2, 1990.He enjoyed traveling, card playing and spending time with his family and friends.

Helia Irene DeRousie

Helia Irene DeRousie, age 89, of Tecumseh, formerly of Blissfield, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Cambrian Assisted Living. She was born on November 22, 1923, in Baltic, Mich., to Kaarlo and Fannie (Hirvasniemi) Juntunen. Helia married Stuart J. DeRousie on April 6, 1946, in Detroit, Mich.Helia grew up in the Upper Peninsula and worked as a secretary in Detroit, at Adrian College and at Tecumseh Products. Her joys were summers in the Keweenaw Peninsula, many friends, reading, long walks, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband Stuart J.

Lindeman takes over THS varsity wrestling program

Tecumseh High School’s athletic department announced on Tuesday, July 29, that Josh Lindeman has been hired as the Indians’ new head varsity wrestling coach. Lindeman takes over for Tony Greathouse, who resigned after coaching the Indians the last two seasons.Tecumseh advanced to the Division II state tournament both seasons under Greathouse’s leadership.Lindeman coached wrestling at Columbia Central last season. He will also serve as assistant coach for Tecumseh’s varsity football team.A meet the coach meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 1, at 3 p.m.

An email response from Clinton Public Schools’ Superintendent’s office today named Tecumseh High School Athletic Director, Casey Randolph, as the Redskins’ new athletic director.

Clinton family traveling to Spain to reunite with granddaughter while mom awaits trial in Czech Republic

Two weeks ago, Christina Walters had no idea the location of her four-year-old niece, Rachel Hardy. Walters’ sister, Pam Hardy, had left for a doctor’s appointment and never returned home.Clinton resident Tom Hardy, Pam’s father and Rachel’s grandfather, was contacted on July 1 by police in the Czech Republic and told Pam had been arrested for drug smuggling, but the whereabouts of Rachel were unknown. The Hardy family was frantic. “It’s real hard,” said Tom’s wife, Madonna.With the help of CNN and a private investigator, the family learned Rachel Hardy was in Malaga, Spain.
