People in Michigan and elsewhere are increasingly recognizing the pull of comedian Tim Allen’s voice and a familiar strain of music in the Pure Michigan! campaign on television and radio. Tecumseh now has its own radio narrative inviting visitors to the trails and natural beauty of the city and its surrounding area, and officials are ready to share the spot with locals. It will be launched as a feature statewide in April as part of the Pure Michigan!
The long-anticipated interview process to find the successor for retiring Tecumseh Public Schools Supt. Mike McAran began Tuesday, Jan. 29, with the first two of six candidates taking their place, one at a time, before the school board and members of the general public in the schools’ administrative service center, 212 N. Ottawa St.
Clinton’s varsity girls basketball team picked up its fourth Tri-County Conference victory of the season by defeating the Morenci Bulldogs 49-38 on Friday, Jan. 25. Leading the way for Clinton was Kristen Forest, scoring 16 points while also collecting three rebounds. Shannon Hill and Leigha Sanborn each scored nine points for the Redskins while junior co-captain Elizabeth Barkel and Melissa Dowell each grabbed seven rebounds.Clinton defeated Ann Arbor Greenhills 68-52 on Monday, Jan.
Four state qualifying times were recorded by Tecumseh’s varsity boys swim and dive team at home in a 131-55 victory against Bedford on Thursday, Jan. 24.There were also 22 personal best times recorded by the Indians as they won all but one event at the home meet.A state cut time was recorded by the Indians in the very first event of the evening, the 200 Medley Relay.
Three of Tecumseh High School’s varsity wrestlers won titles at this year’s annual Lenawee County All-Star Wrestling Tournament at Adrian College on Saturday, Jan. 26.The Indians advanced six wrestlers to the championship finals. Tecumseh junior Preston Pelham won the 215-pound title after scoring a takedown and near fall on Sand Creek’s Garrett Miller for a 5-0 decision.Tecumseh senior Cole Amstutz recently recorded his 100th career victory for the Indians and was also one of the county champions.
An expansion to Tecumseh Place, one of the city’s assisted living facilities known as “The Fieldstone,” began welcoming new residents on Monday, Jan. 28. Ginny Ingle, one of the company’s owners, was on hand to oversee the move-in of The Fieldstone’s first occupants, which included Lottie Martin and Ruth Crosby. Furnishings were being unloaded out of a Martin’s Home Center truck that had been loaned for the move.“Some of our Tecumseh Place I residents are moving over here,” said Ingle.
Lenawee Stamping Corporation/Van Rob was recently awarded a $5.3 million business incentive grant through the Michigan Business Development Program which will help the company expand its Tecumseh operations and also aid in the company’s effort to add an additional facility in Michigan. The program is part of a business attraction and economic gardening initiative, supported by the Michigan Strategic Fund.State Rep.
Tecumseh police have located the driver of the vehicle that left the scene of a truck versus pedestrian injury crash that occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The crash occurred near the intersection of W. Chicago Blvd. and Cairns Street at 7:12 a.m.The driver was located using surveillance videos from the area that were obtained and reviewed by the police department, according to a press release issued by Tecumseh Police Chief Troy Stern.The driver was interviewed, and it was determined that he was unaware that he struck the victim.
Mary L. Clauda, age 74 of Tecumseh, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 in her home. She was born on July 11, 1938 in Tecumseh, the daughter of Paul and Esther (Slater) Clauda.Mary was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and truly enjoyed the companionship and fellowship at Orchard Terrace where she lived. She worked for many years at Peerless Gear before retiring.She is survived by one niece, Rita Clauda and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Patricia Clauda.Mary was in State at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Tuesday, Jan.
Mariann Eleanore Conklin, 69, of Adrian, passed away on January 27, 2013 at her home under the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born April 26, 1943 in Kalamazoo, Mich., the daughter of Herbert and Eleanore Emmons. On April 23, 1966 she married James Conklin and he survives. Mariann was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. She worked as a data analyst for Washtenaw and Monroe ISD’s and as a consultant for the Ypsilanti School District. Mariann earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Rosella “Bonnie” Godin, age 87, of Manitou Beach passed away at Arbor Manor in Spring Arbor, Mich., on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. She was born October 5, 1925 in Grand Ledge, Mich., the daughter of Forest and Julia (Porter) Watson. Bonnie was no stranger to work.
The City of Tecumseh Police Department is investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian, hit and run, injury crash that occurred early Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, at the intersection of W. Chicago Blvd. and Cairns St. The crash occurred at 7:12 a.m. when a Tecumseh High School student was on her way to school.The victim was transported from the scene by ambulance to the University of Michigan Medical Center. While on the scene, the victim was conscious and speaking with rescue personnel. At the time of this release, her medical condition was unknown.
The frigid temperatures this past week, which included wind chills below zero, have found residents bundling up tighter than usual. Tecumseh temperatures included a zero degree day on Monday, Jan. 21, and a -1 degree day on Tuesday, Jan. 22, according to records kept by the Tecumseh Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Another step toward establishing an assessment district for the Red Mill Pond Dam repairs and maintenance will be taken on Monday, Jan. 28. The Lenawee County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a petition to establish the normal lake level for Red Mill Pond on December 11, 2012, and the Monday hearing will allow time for public testimony.The Lenawee County Drain Commissioner’s Office assumed operational responsibilities for the dam on December 17, 2012, after a one-year agreement, through which Wade Trim provided operational duties, expired.
When Tecumseh Middle School orchestra teacher Amy Marr headed to the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids the weekend of January 18, she knew she was a finalist for the 2013 Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) Orchestra Teacher of the Year Award, but she was still surprised when her name was announced.Marr said MSBOA is made up of 16 districts, with Tecumseh being in District 8.

“God was watching over her,” said Jean Gall, mother of Joanna Gall, 24, who survived an accident on Thursday, Jan. 17 when she was struck by a pickup truck and run over on Chicago Boulevard in downtown Tecumseh.Gall was in the crosswalk when the truck, driven by Kyle Mason, 30, of Tecumseh, turned right from southbound Evans Street onto westbound W.
A new Med Box for disposal of expired or unused medications is now in operation at the Tecumseh Police Department, which is located at 309 E. Chicago Blvd. Medications may be dropped in the box anytime the police department lobby is open, or between the hours of 8 a.m. and midnight.The idea of establishing a drop box in the community stemmed from meetings of the Tecumseh Coalition for Youth (TCYF), which formed approximately a year ago and is made up of community members, leaders and youth representatives.
