By DEB WUETHRICHRiders in the Second Annual Tour de Tecumseh will launch in groups for three rides from the Art Center at Community Arts of Tecumseh (CAT) in John Smith Park on Sunday, May 20. The event is a fundraiser for CAT as well as a family friendly activity promoting exercise and arts awareness. A gallery of bicycle art will also be set up at the Center.“Our original objective was to involve community members and perhaps, in the process, bring people to the Art Center who haven’t been out here before,” said CAT Executive Director, Laura Mastrorocco.

By MICKEY ALVARADO Kids wearing cowboy hats and boots greeted Adrian’s varsity football team as the Maples took to their home field on Friday, Oct. 15, to face the visiting Tecumseh Indians.The Maples shut out the Indians in the first half but had to cowboy-up in the second half to stop a determined Tecumseh squad from stealing the show. Adrian toughened up late in the second half, lassoed the Indians and took a 25-14 Southeastern Conference victory.The teams went toe-to-toe in the opening quarter and neither was able to score any points.

By DEB WUETHRICHA request for an injunction to prevent the city of Tecumseh from replacing rather than restoring a mausoleum door at Brookside Cemetery was denied by Judge Margaret Noe on Monday, Oct. 17, in Lenawee County Circuit Court. Attorney Michael Brooks filed the lawsuit on Sept. 13 on behalf of Tecumseh residents Roland and Janet von Kaler.Tecumseh City Council members approved the purchase of a new door from Stafford Building Products of Waterford, Ohio, in August.

By MICKEY ALVARADOA ball shot off the foot of Tecumseh High School senior Nate Brown ended a double overtime Division 2 district soccer championship match at Adrian on Saturday, Oct. 22, with the lone goal defeating Sturgis for the title.Intensity increased on and off the playing field as the game wore on, however, neither team was able to score a goal in 80 minutes of play.

Tecumseh’s varsity girls cross country team placed third at the Southeastern Conference Championship at Hudson Mills Metropark on Thursday, Oct. 20 while the Indians’ boys finished fourth.Dexter placed first in the girls division with a score of 25 while Chelsea was second with 32.

By MARY KAY McCORMICKOn Monday, Aug. 15, the Ten Cate and Zietlow families had their world turn upside down when their historic home on Allan Road caught fire and suffered severe damage. Bernie and Teri Ten Cate lived in one part of the house, while their daughter Hollianne Zietlow lived with her husband Travis and their daughter Natalie in another part of the house. Hollianne and Natalie were home that morning, and were able to get out of the house safely. Five Lenawee County fire departments assisted Tecumseh Fire Department in extinguishing the blaze.

By DEB WUETHRICHLenawee County voters will be asked to vote on Proposal 1 on the Nov. 8 ballot which would support a 0.28-mill property tax to fund the nonprofit Lenawee County Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) for the next four years. The measure was put forth by the Lenawee County Commissioners this past June.It is estimated that the four-year millage would generate approximately $883,000 next year, with a total of approximately $3.5 million over the next four years.
