Commission considers site plans, marijuana moratorium

During its first meeting in several months, the Tecumseh Planning Commission had four public hearings, a zoning change request, and several site plan approvals on the agenda Tuesday evening, Sept. 10. The first order of business, however, was to approve a Medical Marijuana Moratorium extension. Brad Raymond, Director of the city’s Building Department, said the current moratorium is set to expire on October 14.“After talking to Scott Baker, our city attorney, he indicated that the cases we were anticipating going through the court systems have not yet been resolved in court,” Raymond said.

Jennie Schober

Jennie Schober, age 108 of Clinton, passed away September 7, 2013, at Tecumseh Place. Jennie was born July 18, 1905 in Macon Township the daughter of Dill and Mabel (Miller) Burleson. On July 18, 1926 she married LeRoy V. Heilman of Cheboygan, Mich. They had one daughter, Nelma (Heilman) Korth. LeRoy died November, 1966. She later married Duncan Robison and Fred Schober, who both preceded her in death.

William Edward Reginald Lewis

William Edward Reginald Lewis, age 81, of Tecumseh, passed away September 10, 2013.William was born March 11, 1932 in Detroit, Mich., the son of John and Phyllis (Taylor) Lewis.On January 19, 1957 he married Bernice Minch in Redford, Mich., and she preceded him in death February 4, 2012. For 50 years he was a journeyman plumber for Plumbers Local 98, retiring in 1985.

David G. Macy

David G. Macy, age 63, of Onsted passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, with his loving family at his side and under the gentle care of Hospice of Lenawee. David was born October 15, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of John and Dorothy (Anderson) Macy.David was a 1972 graduate of Michigan State University and was an avid Spartan fan. He worked in marketing and advertising for many years before becoming a Realtor. He was a member of the Lenawee Country Club, the Brooklyn Moose Lodge, Michigan Association of Realtors, and held Master Gardener Certification from Hidden Lake Gardens-MSU.

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrates 75th anniversary

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church will be celebrating 75 years of gospel ministry in the Tecumseh community with a “75 Years of Grace” worship service and anniversary event on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m. The special worship service will include a sermon by guest preacher Rev. Michael Bater, as well as music from the adult choir and hand chime group. A special German- style meal will follow.Marge Bryan, 95, recalls the Lutheran church’s roots as a mission when services were first led in private homes. She remembers services being held in the Braun Building at 206 E.

Reward offered in vandalism at Tecumseh Middle School

ADRIAN — Crime Stoppers of Lenawee is asking for the public’s help with information to help identify the person or persons responsible for stealing an asphalt compactor owned by Slusarski Excavating & Paving of Adrian and causing damage to property and equipment belonging to Tecumseh Public Schools. On Friday, Aug. 30, at 8:39 a.m., officers responded to a wooded area just west of the Tecumseh Middle School (TMS) property for an asphault roller that was discovered stuck in Evans Creek. Officers determined that the suspect(s) had stolen the equipment that was being used at the school.

Company offers reward to locate culprits of vandalism, theft

Slusarski Excavating and Paving of Adrian is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft of a paving machine from a construction site at Tecumseh Middle School last week. The company had been doing paving work behind the school.“It must have happened sometime Thursday night because we came in Friday morning and noticed our roller was missing,” said Brian Slusarski.

Tecumseh artist is accepted into Grand Rapids' ArtPrize competition

Pat Ducat Bogusz has spent the last year going in circles, but in a good way. Her experience is an artistic expression of millions of ink pen circles on 12 panels that when mounted together stand around five feet tall.“There’s no pattern,” Bogusz said of the random design of the work.The piece is entitled “Encutum Motus,” which is Latin for “Ink Movement,” and has been accepted into the 2013 ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids. Bogusz is the only person from Tecumseh participating this year.

City Council News: DiggyPOD to request tax abatement

Tecumseh City Council members set a public hearing date of Monday, Sept. 16 at 7:35 p.m. at its Tuesday, Sept. 3 meeting to hear a request from DiggyPOD for an Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate. DiggyPOD, a printing company owned by Tim Simpson, recently relocated from Saline to 301 Industrial Drive, now occupying a building that previously housed the former Supply Side. The application notes that DiggyPOD’s investment of $595,000 for new equipment will help retain 15 current jobs and create two more within two years.

Robert Walter Spigiel

Robert Walter Spigiel, age 62 of Tecumseh died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at ProMedica Herrick Hospital. Robert married Ruth Ann Podnar on August 25, 1973 in Wyandotte and she survives. According to Robert’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial/celebration of his life luncheon held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 from 1-5 p.m. at the Tecumseh Community Center Glass Room, 703 E. Chicago Blvd., Tecumseh.

THS girls place first, remain undefeated

Tecumseh’s varsity girls cross country team placed first at Adrian’s Burt Cebulski Invitational at Heritage Park, Wednesday, Aug 28.The Indians scored 56 points to place first while Erie Mason totaled 72 points to finish second and Dundee, 77 points to finish third. The Maples placed fifth with 89 points.Hannah Weatherford placed first for the Indians with a personal best time of 21:18. She pulled away at the second mile and finished 1:18 ahead of the second place runner.

Art Trail Tecumseh unveils expanded program next year

Tecumseh’s successful Art Trail program, which includes annual offerings of new sculptures throughout the community, will be expanding to include some 2-D art next May.The Tecumseh Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is requesting proposals from artists who are interested in submitting original work that will be digitally reproduced for an outdoor public art project. Submissions must be postmarked by Monday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m.

Croswell announces 2013-2014 season

The new season for the Croswell Opera House in Adrian has been announced, and promises music and theater lovers many different ways to enjoy an evening out.The Broadway Season at the Croswell has the Elvis Presley tribute “All Shook Up” kicking off the year, running Sept. 20-29. Set in 1955, a small town girl hopes to meet a certain rock-and-roll star, and when he arrives, romance and rock-and-roll and the magic of Elvis kick in.“Sweeney Todd” is next on the schedule, running Oct. 11-20, and offering a darker musical treat.

‘Spirit of America’ drive at MIS 9/11

BROOKLYN — Michigan International Speedway will partner with Michigan Blood for the Spirit of America blood drive on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The day will include activities honoring and remembering the victims and heroes of 9-11.The annual blood drive at the racetrack began as a tribute in 2002 to honor the victims and heroes of 9-11.
