This year’s Michigan High School Athletic Association Class B district final in Adrian on Saturday, Nov. 3, swung back and forth through five matches before Tecumseh claimed the title with three out of five wins against Carleton Airport.Tecumseh opened with a 25-19 victory but Airport knotted the match with a 25-21 win in the second set.
The Lenawee United Way Board of Directors recently approved the program funding recommendation of the Community Fund Distribution committee for 2012.Each year, the Lenawee United Way provides funds to nonprofit programs in Addison, Blissfield, Britton, Clinton, Deerfield, Hudson, Morenci, Onsted, Sand Creek and Tecumseh through the Community Fund Distribution grants process.

Anyone who has a doubt about Americans’ penchant to help out in an emergency need only witness the outpouring of volunteerism on the Eastern Seaboard in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, which wreaked havoc in that sector of the nation Tuesday. State and federal agencies were quick to respond, but so were neighbors and private citizens.
Inspired by research on the Internet for her monthly book club, Kathy Betzoldt reached out and contacted the author of the book the group was reading for October. The result was a special guest for the group courtesy of modern technology. Direct interaction with an author during book club meetings is uncommon, but thanks to Skype, the neighborhood membership for the Outer Drive Court Book Club in Tecumseh expanded to include author Steve Luxenberg in Washington D.C.Book clubs are one way to build community and connections between neighbors, friends or co-workers.

In response to Mark Madison's letter dated 10/29:The suggestion that somehow Dems need to stop “blaming” Bush for leaving the country in a shambles is childish. If we can’t look at the past and logically assess what policies resulted in a poor economy, we are doomed to repeat the mistakes. As for the argument that we should encourage the President to be a little more like Ronald Reagan, I’d suggest that we not. Here’s why. It’s very easy to create job growth if you’re willing to triple the national debt and raise the debt ceiling 17 times.
Paul Eugene Yoder, 92, of Onsted, Mich., and Dade City, Fla., passed away on October 24, 2012 at his home. Cremation has taken place.The second oldest child of six for Lewis “Babe” Yoder and Pearl (Doner) Yoder, Paul was raised on a farm in Pioneer, Ohio with his siblings through the roaring ‘20s and the Great Depression. He worked for a short time on the railroad, then worked for Tecumseh Products as a single spindle drill operator in Tecumseh, Mich., just before joining the Army on April 2, 1942.
It may seem unlikely that a hurricane would affect the Tecumseh area, but that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday as strong winds from Hurricane Sandy brought down numerous trees and limbs. Tecumseh Fire Chief Joe Tuckey said the department received several calls for blocked roadways, including the one above when a limb fell onto E. Chicago Blvd. near Rogers Hwy.
Only three touchdowns were scored in Britton Deerfield’s Division 7 pre-district varsity football game at Reading on Friday, Oct. 26, and the Patriots recorded two of them to advance to the next round of playoffs. BD won 14-7.BD took a 6-0 lead into the fourth quarter and added a touchdown and two-point conversion to increase the lead to 14-0 with 8:09 remaining in the game.Reading scored its only touchdown on a 62-yard breakaway run with 3:52 left in the final quarter.Kriss Iott scored for BD on a 77-yard pass from Nate Hoffman while Leighton Merritt added a touchdown on a 45-yard rush.
Manchester ended Clinton’s season with a one point, 37-36, Division 6 pre-district victory on Friday, Oct. 26.Clinton (9-1) defeated the Flying Dutchmen 32-14 to open the season and went on an undefeated nine game winning streak before colliding into Manchester a second time. The last time the Redskins advanced to the playoffs, in 2009, they defeated Adrian-Madison 14-12 but lost 11-0 to Manchester to end the post-season run.
With longer lines and waits expected at the polls for the November 6 Presidential Election, voters might want to consider allowing themselves a little extra time to vote. Another way to keep things moving is for voters to educate themselves in advance regarding their votes, including the ballot issues.

To the Editor,America, we have a problem!The crew of the U.S. Apollo 13 moon flight reported a problem back to their Houston base on April 14th, 1970. A slight misquote: “Houston, we have a problem” was adapted for the 1995 film — Apollo 13. An oxygen tank had exploded two days into the mission, which triggered a life-threatening event for the crew. The new mission became the safe return of the crew, which happened on April 17th.
