Clinton’s varsity boys cross country team qualified for the Division 3 state meet, held at Michigan International Speedway on Nov. 5, with a third place regional finish at Lake Erie Metropark on Saturday, Oct.
Britton Deerfield’s varsity cross-country teams competed at the Division 4 regional race held at Willow Metro Park on Saturday, Oct. 29.The Patriot girls finished just outside of qualifying with a fourth place finish. Larissa Buckingham led BD with a fourth place time of 21:23 while Marisa Kimerer placed eighth in 21:53. Carrie Wielfaert finished 12th. All three girls qualified for the state championship meet held at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, Nov.
The V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary 4187 Tecumseh, will hold their regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. All members are asked to bring mittens, hats and scarves for distribution to those in need. Members are also asked to bring non-perishable food items for the local food bank. If other members would like to contribute, please drop off at the V.F.W. Post Home. 427 N. Evans St. Tecumseh.
Lenawee County Family Researchers will meet Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at Tecumseh District Library, 215 N. Ottawa St., Tecumseh. Members of the Lucy Wolcott Barnum Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will present a program on the DAR. Betty Cummings, Regent of the Lucy Wolcott Barnum Chapter, will describe the history of the DAR and the founding of the chapters in Tecumseh and Adrian.
Gladys Ellen Robideau, 85, of Tecumseh, passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2011. She was born Sept. 5, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Teachout) Goetz. She married James J. Robideau on Nov. 23, 1949. Sadly, he preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2005.Gladys was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and a member of the Herrick Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed hosting parties, attending the theater, traveling, and spending time with her many friends and family.

Ashley V. Cox, 19, of Hudson, passed away Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Kassie Lynn Wingerd “Babers”, 13, of Clinton passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the U of M Mott Children's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 14, 1998, in Tecumseh, the daughter of Dale and Audra (Russell) Wingerd. Kassie was currently in the eighth grade at Clinton Middle School, where she was active in the choir. She was involved in the Siena Heights Youth Theater. Kassie loved animals, including her beloved dogs Rosie and Zoey.She also loved being around children.
By MICKEY ALVARADONothing came easy for Tecumseh’s varsity volleyball team during the Michigan High School Athletic Association district No. 37 B tournament but after scratching and clawing past Ida and Onsted the Indians retained their title and set a new school win record.“It’s a tough district, that’s for sure” said Tecumseh coach Kerri Watkins after accepting the district trophy.Ida did everything it could to try and fend off the hard attacking Indians after winning the first match of the semifinal on Thursday, Nov. 3, hosted by Tecumseh High School.
Clinton’s varsity volleyball team finished its season after falling to Manchester in Class C district championship, hosted by the Redskins on Saturday, Nov. 5.Manchester defeated Clinton 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19.Clinton’s Bailee Brooks had 17 digs while Haley Mercy and Abi Clark each had 14. Lauren Underwood added nine digs for Clinton while Morgan Sevenish chipped in eight. Rachel Cornish turned in three blocks while Haylee Hoelzer had two. Hoelzer also had six kills while Leigha Sanborn had four.
Tecumseh High School’s varsity swim and dive team placed fourth at the Southeastern Conference meet with a score of 200. Dexter placed first with 488 points while Chelsea was second with 250. Adrian placed third with 263 points.Rachel Waite was the only Tecumseh swimmer to place first in an event. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.77.
To the Editor,Today I was driving down Chicago Blvd when I noticed a very small dog running across the street from the city hall building. I was driving west so I turned around and came back to attempt to rescue the dog. There was an older gentlemen with a Sand Lake Fire Dept. shirt on that was there attempting to do the same. We had both stopped because we seen this small dog running in and out of traffic. The dog came across the street to where I was standing. I tried to call the dog and he took off into the road and was hit and killed instantly.

She was born on December 23, 1991 in Adrian, the daughter of Sandra Jo (Presson) Cox and Douglas L. Cox. Ashley graduated from Hudson High School in 2011 and worked at KFC in Adrian. She enjoyed softball, sewing and hanging out with her friends.

Running unopposed are: Pat Housekeeper, Gary Naugle, and Laurence Van Alstine, Jr. Naugle was appointed to complete Richard Johnson’s unexpired term after Johnson became Mayor of Tecumseh. He graduated in 1951, then in 1952 joined the Naval Reserves. Seaman Beatty was sent to Bainbridge, Maryland for his basic training, then was assigned to the U.S.S. New Jersey, a battleship headed for Korea.The battleship was 889 feet long, 108 feet wide at midship, weighed 45,000 tons, and carried a complement of 3,500 sailors aboard.
By DEB WUETHRICHTecumseh City manager Kevin Welch reported to Tecumseh City Council on Monday night that the city recently received word that funds from three Small Urban Grants would be made available to help fund work on Tecumseh’s streets over the next two years.Funds will be coming for road work in 2012 for North Occidental from M-50 to Brown Street. Two projects slated for 2013 include: South Occidental from M-50 to Russell Road, and South Maumee from M-50 to Russell Road.
