Nowak takes over Tecumseh varsity softball team

By MICKEY ALVARADOJeff Nowak has taken over Tecumseh High School’s softball program, replacing Kristalyn Musselman, the Indians’ two-time Division II state championship softball coach.Muselman and the Indians gained back-to-back Division II state titles in 2007-08.“I’m excited and looking forward to a great year,” said Nowak.The new coach has set a goal of attaining another state softball title. He’s happy with the players he has his first season saying, “I coached a lot of them in little leagues so I know a lot of them.

Long Motor Sales celebrate 50th anniversary

Long Motor Sales passes a milestone late this month as it celebrates its 50th anniversary in business on the corner of North Evans Street and West Logan Street. John Long, Jr. started the business in 1963 after working as a salesman for other car dealers, including Harvey Wilson Plymouth in Tecumseh. and owning his own shops elsewhere. His son, Eric Long, now owns and operates the business, which has always included family involvement.Eric doesn’t really remember a time that he didn’t want to repair cars.

Tecumseh family seeks van to help transport son

The Root family, of Tecumseh, is hoping to obtain a wheelchair-accessible van to assist them with the challenges faced by their son, Miles, through a national contest during Mobility Awareness Month, coming up in May. Participants are asked to share their stories and how they “embody the spirit of ‘Life Moving Forward’” in the face of obstacles, and then readers vote for a winner. The contest is a partnership through several automotive companies and will award at least three vans based on votes obtained as readers take action after reading each participant’s story.

David A. Linden, Sr

David A. Linden, Sr., age 70, of Clinton, passed away March 19, 2013.David was born Oct. 26, 1942 in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of James and Dorothy (Gebauer) Linden. On Dec. 7, 1963 he married Barbara Rufner in Tecumseh and she survives. David retired from Ford Motor Company, Saline Plant with over 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army. David was an avid classic car car enthusiast and participated in several car shows.

Objections raised at public hearing on assessment district for Red Mill Pond dam repairs

A decision to form a special assessment district for repair and maintenance on the Red Mill Dam came a little closer to fruition at a public hearing on Monday, March 18.

Lenawee County ranks in top quarter of healthiest counties in state-wide survey

The goal of the study, according to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is to show the majority of health factors occur outside medical facilities.

Mike “Rossi” Ross

Mike “Rossi” Ross, age 53 passed on to his Eternal Peace March 7, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center, in Johnson City, Tenn.He was born August 2, 1959, in Bremerhaven, Germany to Terry and Phyllis (Hill) Ross of Tecumseh. He was married to Sandra Herndon July 10, 2004 in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Mike was a graduate of Tecumseh High School, class of 1977.He retired from Bosch Co., formerly Budd Co. in Clinton, and moved to Tennessee when Budd relocated to Johnson City, Tenn.

Superintendent of Tecumseh Public Schools takes state to task for tapping pension fund

A recent account in The Oakland Press reported that the State of Michigan has paid $1 million out of teacher pension money to help pay down a debt incurred by the Pontiac-area movie studio that produced the movie “Oz, the Great and Powerful,” which is currently playing in theaters around the nation.The Oakland Press asserted that a deal was struck by then Gov.

Rebottaro to lead Lenawee County Department on Aging

Tecumseh resident Cari Rebottaro was confirmed by the Lenawee County Board of Commissioners last week to replace Tom MacNaughton as the Lenawee County Department on Aging’s Director. MacNaughton is retiring on April 30 after serving 24 years as director. Rebottaro will assume her duties at the helm on May 1.Rebottaro left college as an education major, but soon found herself filling in for someone on maternity leave as activities director at Herrick Manor.

Redheaded runner from Tecumeh a member of U-of-M’s national championship relay team

By MICKEY ALVARADOA well-respected redheaded runner from Tecumseh has recently made national news as a member of the University of Michigan’s women’s track team.Tecumseh High School graduate Amanda (Putt) Eccleston, known locally by her long red hair and running talent, helped the Wolverine’s pick up a national title in the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) at the Indoor NCAA National Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

Watkins to golf for Aquinas College

By MICKEY ALVARADOAquinas College’s women’s golf team picked up a WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) championship last season and to defend the title head coach Dan Pupel went to Tecumseh High School and picked up Paige Watkins, a four year starter for the Indians.“Our team GPA is 3.6, so she’s going to fit in real well,” said coach Pupel. “We won the conference title last year so we are the defending champions. I have four seniors but two of them are starters. Our number one and six girls in the starting line up are graduating.

Lois B. (Ehlert) Mac George

Lois B. (Ehlert) Mac George, age 92, of Tecumseh, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Britton, Mich., to Bert R. and Mabel C. (Adams) Moore. She graduated from Britton High School. She married Lorenz (Fuzz) Ehlert of Deerfield on October 28, 1939. They were blessed with five wonderful children. Lois was a member of Deerfield Methodist Church, Deerfield Mothers Club and was employed at Deerfield Hardware, Deerfield School cafeteria and Revco, Inc. in the 1950’s and 60’s. Fuzz preceded her in death on February 11, 1961.

Dorothy M. Damon

Dorothy M. Damon, age 92, of Tecumseh, passed away March 12, 2013.Dorothy was born February 20, 1921 in Macon, Michigan the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (McClue) Hall. Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Tecumseh High School, a lifelong member of the Macon United Methodist Church and in recent years attended the Clinton United Church of Christ.Dorothy had many friends she dearly loved.

Mildred Irene Moyer

Mildred Irene Moyer, age 88, of Tecumseh, passed away March 19, 2013.Mildred was born May 1, 1924 in Tecumseh, Mich., the daughter of Seaman and Ethel (Steele) Martin.She lived her entire life in the Tecumseh area. Mildred married Rev. Cyrenus McDonnell and he preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1975. She then married Rev. Kenneth Moyer June 17, 1987 and he preceded her in death December 12, 1998.

John F. Thomas

John F. Thomas, age 63, of Tecumseh, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went home to his Lord Jesus on March 12, 2013. He was born March 29, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Paul and Wilma (Clouse) Thomas. He was united in marriage to Karyn Forbes on August 28, 1970. John was a 1967 graduate of St. Francis DeSalle High School in Toledo, where he was an outstanding basketball and baseball player and was a member of the area Student Council.
