To the Editor,Thank you for the well-balanced and informative article you wrote announcing the May 7 Tecumseh District Library millage vote. (TDL to seek 1.35 mills in May election, 1.15 renewal and .20 additional mills). I’m writing to let your readers know important resources are available to help them understand the millage requests.The Tecumseh District Library Ballot Question Committee (TDL-BQC) has set up a website at www.vote4tdl.com, which is loaded with useful information.

Rotary thanks soccer team with help in selling Christmas trees

To the Editor,I would like to personally thank the Tecumseh High School Girls Soccer Team for all their help in selling Christmas trees for the Tecu-mseh Rotary Club.The Team helped unload 250 Christmas trees and worked Monday thru Friday evenings selling trees. They are a fantastic group with great attitudes and servant hearts! These young ladies are truly a part of what makes Tecumseh a great place to live! Indian boys beat Arbor Preparatory Gators

Five of Tecumseh’s varsity boys basketball team players recorded double digit scoring to help the Indians easily defeat visiting Arbor Preparatory 77-47 on Monday, Jan. 14.The Indians improved to 4-4 overall with the win and look to improve on their season record with preparations underway to face Adrian on the road Friday, Jan. 18.While the Indians dumped the ball in the net almost at will in the opening stanza, the visiting Gators were limited to a single three-point basket the entire first quarter.

Clinton's varsity boys basketball team records loss

A lackluster third quarter by Clinton’s varsity boys basketball team allowed visiting Whiteford to surge ahead and finish with a 49-40 Tri-County Conference victory on Friday, Jan. 11, and become the first team to defeat the Redskins.Clinton held a slim 20-19 lead at the end of two quarters but the Bobcats outscored the Redskins 18-8 in the third quarter to take a 37-28 lead into the fourth. TJ Baker led Clinton’s offense with 23 points while Grant Clark scored eight points for the Redskins.Clinton (9-1) followed with a 58-31 win at Michigan Center on Monday, Jan.

Tecumseh hosts annual Kiwanis Invitational

Fourteen of 24 events at Tecumseh High School’s annual unscored Kiwanis Swimming and Diving Invitational were won by Chelsea while Adrian followed with the second highest first place finishes with seven. Events were divided into freshmen/sophomore (Fr/So) and junior/senior (Jr/Sr) divisions.The hosting Indians didn’t win any event but placed second in seven of the Saturday, Jan. 12, races.Tecumseh senior Ian Russell placed second in both the Jr/Sr 200-yard freestyle (1:54.53) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.68) to lead the Indians in the meet.

Indians first at Gibralter Carlson tourney

Tecumseh’s varsity wrestling team placed first at the Gibraltar Carlson Team Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 12 with an undefeated 5-0 record.The Indians defeated Fenton (69-4), New Boston Huron (71-9), Dearborn Fordson (54-22), Gibraltar Carlson (52-18), and Riverview (54-18). Tecumseh had seven wrestlers finish 5-0 including Ricky Azelton (103): Jake Hilton (119), Luke Liuzzi (125), Wyatt Cadmus (130), Landon Pelham (189), Preston Pelham (215) and Joe Rebottaro (285). Tecumseh improved to 19-5 on the season with the wins. The Indians also had a B-Team go 3-2 and finish fifth overall.

Nurses claim staffing shortage may harm patients at county hospitals

Registered nurses at ProMedica’s Bixby and Herrick Hospital have “gone public” with their concerns about staffing shortages at the local facilities, and have asked for intervention by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to assist with their concerns. Martin F. Wallich

Martin F. Wallich, age 79, of Tecumseh died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at Herrick Manor, Tecumseh surrounded by his family. He was born on February 8, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Charles and Sadie (Bowe) Wallich. On September 9, 1961 he was married to Phyllis Shirley Jumber in Detroit, Michigan. Martin served his country in the United States Army. He went on to earn his Associate’s Degree from Michigan State University. Martin has owned and operated Tecumseh Plywood in Tecumseh since 1967. Panic attack propels Indians past Chelsea

Being behind Chelsea’s varsity football team by two touchdowns and a field goal in the first quarter of the Division 3 pre-district game on Friday, Oct 26, had Tecumseh’s Indians rushing to catch up most of the evening. But after tying the game late in the third quarter, the Indians went on to defeat Chelsea 27-20 to keep the 2012 season alive and kicking.It was a very big deal for Tecumseh’s football program under second year coach Al Romano. The last time the Indians advanced past the first round of playoffs was in 1991. Chelsea has gone 19-6 against Tecumseh since then.

TDL to seek 1.35 mills in May election

Vital funding for the Tecumseh District Library (TDL) will be put before voters in an upcoming spring election as campaign organizers begin to promote a 1.35 millage request.On May 7, two separate proposals will appear on the election ballot: one for renewal of 1.15 mills and the other for an additional .2 mills, both for 10 years.The additional .2 mills will add approximately $100,000 in needed annual revenue to offset declines in the district’s tax base and increases in expenses, according to campaign chairperson Anne Walker.Walker, a longtime supporter of the library, said the millage i

Clinton man arrested for sexual assault of juvenile

On Friday, Jan. 4, Clinton police arrested Daniel Pitts, 33, on a 10-count felony warrant for First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct involving a child under the age of 16. Pitts was arrested at his mother’s home in Dundee with assistance from the Dundee Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Tecumseh Police Department.The child was assaulted at least 10 times between Dec. 12 and Dec. 30, 2012, according to Clinton Police Chief Michael Randolph, and the incidents were reported to the Clinton Police Department on Dec. 31.

Sandy Hook shooting prompts Tecumseh Public Schools to strengthen security

Tecumseh elementary schools just got much more secure with the installation of high-tech identification video cameras at all main entrances that allow the school secretaries to view any person requesting to come in.In response to the recent tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut and an ongoing policy of concern for student security, Tecumseh Supt. Mike McAran contacted the company that the district has been using for security issues and requested a district-wide security upgrade on December 26.

AJ Smith Recreation Center to officially open Jan. 17

The new AJ Smith Recreation Center in Tecumseh, located at 810 N. Evans Street in John W. Smith Park, is scheduled to officially open on Thursday, Jan. 17 with an open house from 4 to 6 p.m.Opening festivities begin at 4 p.m. with tours and a Flag Dedication, ribbon cutting ceremony planned for 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served until 6 p.m.The Parks and Recreation staff moved from the old Tecumseh Community Center to the new facility over the holiday break and are currently open for business at the new location.

Two-point pass beats BD

Deciding to take a chance at a two-point conversion pass to win its Tri-County Conference (TCC) contest paid off for Clinton’s varsity football team at Britton on Friday, Sept. 7, with the Redskins walking away with a close 15-14 victory. A missed point after touchdown (PAT) kick may have cost the Patriots the game with both teams scoring a touchdown in the opening quarter. Clinton connected on its PAT. Britton Deerfield did not.Clinton’s Cullen Zimmerman opened scoring with a 15-yard pass from quarterback T.J. Baker in the first quarter.

Indians lose control of Jets, fall 11-10

Rain and mud factored into Tecumseh’s final regular season non-conference game at Carleton Airport on Friday, Oct. 19, but more than that was determination as the Jets rallied in the final minute to beat the Indians 11-10 with a gutsy two point conversion call.Tecumseh was leading 10-3 with only 32.5 seconds left in the contest when the Jets put up a long desperation pass on a fourth down and eight-yard situation. The pass was off target but Tecumseh was called for pass interference and the Jets set up on the Indians 20-yard line with 26.5 seconds to work with.

Patriots end season with 32-0 loss to Loyola

A sign noting “Beat those Bulldogs” hanging from Britton Deerfield sidelines made it clear from the very start of the Division 7 regional final at Bishop Foley High School on Saturday, Nov. 10, that Patriot fans wanted to end Loyola’s season.But the sign only pumped up the Bulldogs on the opposite side of the field and it was the Patriots’ season that came to an abrupt end. Tecumseh falls to Harper Creek in regional final

There weren’t a lot of mistakes made by Tecumseh’s varsity football team in the Division 3 regional final at Battle Creek Harper Creek on Friday, Nov. 9, but the ones made cost the Indians the championship and ended their season.Harper Creek connected on a three-point field goal with 5:08 left in the game and denied the Indians another point to beat Tecumseh 26-24 for the regional title.“I don’t think we played our best football game tonight,” said Tecumseh head coach Al Romano. “We had a couple turnovers and a couple of miscues here and there and a couple of critical penalties.
