Celebration in Junior Nation following Earnhardt win at Michigan International Speedway

Dale Earnhardt Jr. finally broke a four year 143-race drought by winning the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 17, and the fans went crazy as he did the burnout at the same track where he had his last win in 2008. Following a two-hour race delay due to rain, Earnhardt pulled away from defending series champion Tony Stewart at the end of the race, leading by 5.393 seconds.“I know you guys have been waiting on that one,” NASCAR’s most popular driver radioed to his crew after he crossed the finish line.

High speeds not always best show, say drivers

NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series drivers were at Michigan International Speedway a day earlier than usual last week for a chance to test-drive the newly paved track on Thursday, June 14, and talk turned to the issue of speed, since cars were clocking 218 miles per hour going into the first turn that day, with many averaging 200 miles per hour on their runs.“Just because you’re going that fast doesn’t mean it’s going to be a great race,” said Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M/Rite Aid/NextCare Ford for Roush Fenway Racing.

'Disgusted’ after flowers removed from cemetery gravesite

To the Editor,I recently went to visit my Dad’s grave at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh. The flowers that I had placed for Memorial Day had been removed along with all the other flowers in the cemetery that were not on top of the markers or in a vase on the marker. This is total disrespect on the cemetery’s part. As I see it, it was desecration of the graves. The loved ones paid for those flowers in love and memory of their loved ones that have passed and June is no where near the flower take-off date for fall cleaning of the cemetery.

Government holds up Hospice Home opening

To the Editor,On behalf of Hospice of Lenawee, I write this letter to both inform and thank the Lenawee County community. As you are aware, in 2008 we embarked on a campaign to build, not just a place, but a Home to serve our patients and their families. This was not done to replace the home care we presently provide; but rather to provide our same services to those for whom care in the home is either impossible or not practical.

American Heart Association ‘overwhelmed by generosity’ of community support

To the Editor,At the American Heart Association our mission is simple “to create lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke” – getting there is more of a challenge. Coronary heart disease is our nation’s leading cause of death. This year about 1.2 million Americans will have a coronary attack. About 452,000 of them will die. Currently 1 out of 3 children is considered overweight or obese. Overweight children are more likely to have abnormally thick heart muscle tissue when they become an adult, which increases the risk of heart attack and heart failure.

Appalled county not moving faster to ban synthetic drugs

To the Editor,I have read the Adrian Telegram from Friday regarding the discussion between County Commissioners concerning synthetic drugs. I have seen, first-hand, the damage caused by these currently ‘legal’ drugs, with the worst case being an individual who had trouble sleeping at night and decided to try ‘bath salts,’ as they were supposed to keep a person alert during the day. That person has been locked-down in the rehab facility in Brighton for almost two months!

Write to congressman, newspaper to overturn Roe v. Wade

To The Editor and Representative Tim Walberg,I have wanted to write this letter for a long time, but I never knew how to word it delicately and frankly, I don’t know how to word it delicately now. I don’t know that there is a delicate way to present the matter.Simply put, I believe life begins at conception and the Supreme Court’s decision for Roe v. Wade long ago condoned the blatant murder of a whole generation of children! This law, this practice, must be rescinded! Roe v.
