Nelson Lee Pask

Nelson Lee Pask, age 50, of Clinton, passed away March 1, 2013. He was born October 21, 1962 in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Calvin and Billie (Shepherd) Pask.Nelson attended Clinton High School. He was an accomplished musician and DJ and enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He is survived by his son Brandon Pask of Adrian; father, Calvin (Melinda) Pask of Onsted; two sisters, Linda (Dave) Fowler of Clayton, and Julie (Mike) Wallace of Cement City; and two brothers, Alan Pask of Brooklyn, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Pask of Ypsilanti. He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie in 1993.

Lois E. Claus, age 78, of Manchester, passed away March 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the J. Franklin “Frank” Schroeder

Franklin “Frank” Schroeder, age 79 of Tecumseh, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh under the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born July 18, 1933 in Macon Twp., Mich., the son of Arthur John and LaVina (Price) Schroeder. On March 26, 1955 he married Ardyth Eaton; sadly she preceded him in death on March 31, 2009 after 54 years of marriage.Frank attended Miller School through eighth grade, and graduated from Britton High School in 1951.

William Meldin Raeburn

William Meldin Raeburn passed away of heart failure on March 1, 2013 at his home in Lakeland, Fla.William was born on September 7, 1937 to William and Susan Raeburn. He graduated from Ann Arbor High School, Eastern Michigan College, and received a masters degree from the University of Michigan.

Callie Sue Whitehead

Callie Sue Whitehead, age, 20, of Tipton died on Monday, March 04, 2013 at home and was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus. She was born May 29, 1992 in Adrian to Victor and Susan (Williams) Whitehead. Callie attended the LISD Trenton Hills Learning Center and Grace Point Evangelical Free Church. Callie had a special smile and was very much loved by her family.Callie is survived by her parents; three sisters, Chelsie, Hailey and Harley; one brother, Hayden all of Tipton; maternal grandparents, David and Jane Williams of Tipton, and paternal grandmother, Janice Whitehead of Tipton.

Theda Y. Wells

Theda Y. Wells, age 95 of Tecumseh, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at Provincial House in Adrian. She was born March 22, 1917 in Toledo Ohio, the daughter of Lester Cole and Nora Esther (Wilson) Froehlich. Theda married Raymond Shaw. On April 22, 1951 she married Daniel F. Wells, who preceded her in death on October 28, 2001.Theda was a member of the Adrian Seventh Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed camping and was an excellent cook.

Public safety departments on agenda for Raisin board

Raisin Township trustees will continue a discussion on the future of the township’s public safety structure as an agenda item on Monday, March 4. The meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Fire Department Meeting Room at the Township Office, 5525 Occidental Hwy., is a week earlier this month due to a Board of Review meeting scheduled for March 11.Raisin Township Supervisor Jay Cavanaugh said meetings have taken place between himself and Fire Chief Rick Renard regarding how the Fire Department will operate after Renard leaves his position this week.

Clinton School Board holds special meeting to review superintendent candidates

On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Clinton Community Schools Board of Education held a special meeting to review applications for the position of superintendent. All members were in attendance at the meeting. The current superintendent, David Pray, retires at the end of the school year.Applications for the position were received from 13 people. Board members reviewed the applications, which had names and any identifying information removed.

D’Ambrosio returns to the Tecumseh Center for the Arts on March 9

There is a very special performance coming to the Tecumseh Center for the Arts March 9 with the return of Franc D’Ambrosio. Tecumseh Center for the Arts has a long tradition of presenting Broadway stars, music legends and other national and world class performances. It’s not often that the TCA will bring those same world class artist back for a repeat performance, and rarely in the very next season. Last season, D’Ambrosio performed his famous “Broadway” show at the TCA.

Habitat for Humanity thankful for support

To the Editor,The 13th Great Pasty Project held January 31 and February 1 was a huge success thanks to all the volunteers who contributed their time and effort as they came together at the First United Methodist Church in Adrian. They produced over 3300 pasties along with the macaroni and cheese and apple crisp created by the Culinary Arts students at the Tech. Center, which will bring a profit of $17,000. Volunteers of all ages came together to work as an assembly line in the kitchen and fellowship hall.

Janice Appel Kadlub

Janice Appel Kadlub, age 59, of Dansville, Mich., went home to be with her beloved Jesus Christ on February 27, 2013 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was the devoted wife of Greg Kadlub, married in 1976, the loving mother of two daughters Jessica Harthorn and Cassidy Kadlub, and the wonderful grandmother of Lillian Harthorn. A 1972 graduate of Tecumseh High School, Jan grew up in Tecumseh. She was the daughter of the late Milton and Lillian Appel, and sister of Milton C. Appel. Throughout the years, Jan was a vital member of several local organizations.

Betty Jo Darish

Betty Jo Darish, age, 66, of Tecumseh died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at University Hospitals, Ann Arbor. She was born February 28, 1947 in Adrian to Carlton and Bertha (Bruchert) Neff. On September 6, 1968 she married Dave Darish at St. Peter Catholic Church in Blissfield and he survives. Betty graduated in 1965 from Deerfield High School. Betty had worked at Korner Café for many years and retired from Carol’s Hallmark, in Tecumseh after 17 years. Betty was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. She enjoyed watching old movies and doing crossword puzzles.

Tecumseh Public Schools ranks high in scores in county survey

Tecumseh Public Schools Supt. Mike McAran is pleased with the recent county survey that recorded residents’ level of satisfaction with their respective school districts. “I’m proud of how our schools are perceived in the county, but especially by district parents,” he said, “and I’m proud of how our students are doing. They’re number one in the county in the Michigan Educational Assessment Pro-­gram (MEAP), and that’s a credit not just to the students but to our teachers and administrators.

New York City chef takes Tecumseh experience at Evans Street Station into new culinary venture

When 2001 Tecumseh graduate Chef John Stevenson relocated to New York City from Michigan, the way he cooked at home with his family changed dramatically. Gone were long trips to the grocery store and loading up a cart with staples to use throughout the week. That is not the way people shop in the big city.“It’s just not a pleasant experience grocery shopping here,” Stevenson said.Not to mention long work hours made it hard to be enthusiastic for all the prep and clean-up time involved in fixing the nightly meal.

Junk to Funk focuses on interactive, wearable art with photo

Last year when a team of individuals brainstormed for a new fundraising activity to benefit the Tecumseh Center for the Arts (TCA), a little event known as “Junk to Funk” was born. The program featured an eco-friendly fashion show as models combined wearability, art and use of recycled materials.

Thanks school district voters for support of pool millage

To the Editor,One year ago February 28th, the Tecumseh Community School District voters graciously supported the Tecumseh Community Memorial Pool in passing a millage to support ongoing operations.Relationships with the Tecumseh Public School Administration, Board of Education, Friends of Tecumseh Community Pool 501(c)3 and community members have grown. This has resulted in an example of a community coming together for a great cause. Over the past year, programs at the pool have done much more than continue, they have grown with new programs and members.

Tecumseh girls win regional championship, Indians qualify six for individual state finals

Another in a long string of first place finishes at team regionals was picked up by Tecumseh’s varsity girls bowling team on Friday, Feb. 21 at Taylor Lanes. The Indians boys team closed its season with a fourth place regional finish.The Indians’ girls team advance five bowlers, including the regional champion, Jordan Richard, while the boys will send regional champion Cody Wilkins.As a team, Tecumseh girls stormed to the top with a whopping score of 3711 while the runners-up, John F. Kennedy, tallied a score of 3491.
