Tecumseh School Board draws limited interest in open seats

With a little more than two weeks to go before the Tuesday, Aug. 14, deadline, no completed petitions for Tecumseh School Board candidates have been received at either the Lenawee County Clerk’s Office or Raisin Charter Township Clerk’s office.

Fire claims home of Macon family

MACON — At 12:49 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, a fire of unknown origin broke out at the home of Warren Schafer at 10340 Ford Highway in Macon Township. Firefighters from the Ridgeway Township Fire Department responded, assisted by departments from Tecumseh, Clinton and Raisin Township.“I would call it a total loss,” said Ridgeway Township Fire Chief Jim Frayer.Frayer said the fire began in an upstairs bedroom of the home. Schafer said no one was upstairs at the time the fire began.Once the fire started in the older farmhouse it spread through the walls very quickly, Frayer said.

Norma Preston

Norma Preston, age 94 of Tecumseh, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at her home of 73 years under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born January 2, 1918 the daughter of Merton and Bernice (Edwards) Thielan. In 1936 she married Leo Seidel and he preceded her in death in 1965; she married Richard Preston on February 11, 1967 and he preceded her in death in 2002.Norma was a member of the Tecumseh Country Club and Herrick Memorial Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, golfing, and spending time at her cottage on Wamplers Lake.

Paulin Mae (Zieske) Hammond

Paulin Mae (Zieske) Hammond, age 85, of Maybee Michigan, died Sunday July 22, 2012. She was born May 5, 1927 in London Twp, Mich., to Paul and Leona (Grassley) Zieske. On October 17, 1947 she married Harold Hammond, who preceded her in death on January 22, 2009. Paulin Mae was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Britton, a member of the Women’s Guild and enjoyed many years of quilting for World Relief.

Hearold L. Coates

Hearold L. Coates, born Oct. 17, 1914 to Bert and Katherine (Zeh) Coates, passed away July 16, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore L.

Faith Elizabeth Faulhaber

Faith Elizabeth Faulhaber, 93, of Adrian, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012, at her home under the loving care of her family.Born January 25, 1919, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Allen) Stephens. On April 29, 1944, Faith married Henry Joseph Faulhaber, of Adrian, at Westover Field in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Faith and Henry celebrated almost 56 years of marriage prior to his death in 2000.Faith devoted her life to her family and her church. She was an active member of St.

Thomas Eugene “Grandpa” Swift

Thomas Eugene “Grandpa” Swift, age 74, of Palmyra, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012, at his home. He was born January 28, 1938, in Adrian, Mich., to Worthy and Mabel (Schneider) Swift. On November 8, 2002, he married Marilyn Kuebler-Powell in Toledo and she survives. Thomas was an avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed camping, woodworking and loved spending time with his grandson, Konner. He was a long time and active member of the Adrian Eagles. Thomas served on the Raisin Twp. Fire Dept. as an E.M.T.

Raffle to help fund ball field projects at THS

The Fans of Tecumseh Baseball and Softball are conducting a “Queen of Diamonds Raffle,” as a fundraiser for the construction of ball diamonds at Tecumseh High School for both the baseball and softball programs. The raffle game consists of 52 cards sealed in envelopes and displayed at Embers Bar where the drawing takes place each Saturday night at 8 pm. One-dollar raffle tickets are sold weekly with the ticket holder selecting an envelope number between 1-52.

Tecumseh has two in all-star game

Tecumseh High School 2012 graduates Courtney LaVoy and Kaileigh Burkhard played in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association’s 31st annual Division 2 All-Star game at Michigan State University on Wednesday, July 18.The game finished in a 1-1 tie between the red and white teams after eight innings of fast, hard action. The Tecumseh players were members of the white team.LaVoy was named to the 2012 Division 2 All-State team at the conclusion of the game, while Burkhard and former Tecumseh teammate Kelsea Kaliszuk were named to the 2012 Division 2 Honorable Mention team.
