Mary V. Shelle, 93, of Tipton, Mich., and formerly of Hudson, Mich., passed away, Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Herrick Manor in Tecumseh, Mich. She was born December 4, 1919, in Blissfield, Mich., the daughter of, John and Clara (Hughes) Kingsley. She married Norbert Edward Shelle on September 5, 1938, in Hudson, Mich., and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1977. Mary was a retired nurse’s aide from Thorn Hospital and graduated from Sacred Heart School Class of 1937. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Rosary Society.

Victor Owen Lawson, age 98, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 in Kalamazoo, Mich. He was born August 4, 1915, in Deerfield, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Logan) Lawson, in 1997 and a son, Lavern Lawson, in 1985. He served in the United States Army and was a barber in Tecumseh for over 50 years. Surviving Victor are three sons, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred at Deerfield Cemetery, date pending. A private memorial service was held in Kalamazoo.

To the Editor,The recent article concerning the March opening planned for the new Cambrian Memory Care Center was excellent news with one minor correction. The article stated, “Since families typically need to travel outside of Lenawee County to find such specialized services.” Actually, Tecumseh Place, Inc. at 1311 Southwestern Dr. in Tecumseh has been providing quality Alzheimer (and other dementia) care since 1995. They, too, have recently expanded their capacity for this service with a $2 million dollar addition to their facilities.Tom HawkinsTecumseh

Tecumseh will soon have a new Jets Pizza franchise being planned for the plaza at 1207 W. Chicago Blvd. Tecumseh Building Services Director Brad Raymond said LS Architecture PLLC, who is working on the business, recently was issued a building permit and an electrical permit.David Clark, Financial Controller for Jets Pizza, confirmed that Jets is in the process of adding a store here. He said JC Ford is the owner of the franchise. Clark said the company operates a Jets Pizza in Adrian as well.

Tecumseh Youth Theatre (TYT) will present “The Wizard of Oz” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22, 23 and 24. The project is a rather ambitious one with a cast of more than 100 youths.“Last year, we experimented with “Seussical” using a number of elementary students in the cast,” said Molly Rice, who is producer of the musical. “We decided we’d like to do something similar only with all age groups involved, from elementary and middle school ages to high school students.”Rice was exposed to the TYT while her son, Ian Graves, was involved for about six years.

Adrian High School’s varsity girls swim and dive team placed first at the SMISL (Southern Michigan Independent Swim League) Championship held in Chelsea on Saturday, Nov. 16, while Tecumseh placed sixth.The Maples scored 363 to lead the pack while Milan was second with 286. Chelsea placed third (259), Bedford fourth (217), Monroe fifth (174) and Tecumseh sixth (96).The Indians had two top three finishes during the event.

To the Editor,I find it interesting that National Hospice month falls in November, which is also known as the Month of Gratitude — how appropriate!It is gratitude that led me to become a volunteer at Hospice of Lenawee.
