Legion auxiliary sends thanks for poppy sales support

Byron “Barney” Goodman

Byron “Barney” Goodman, age 94, of Tecumseh passed away June 2, 2013.Barney was born Jan. 28, 1920 in Waldron, the son of Daniel and Rachel (MacDonald) Goodman. On June 12, 1947 he married Betty Butler in Pittsford, who preceded him in death on May 20, 1997.Barney graduated from Waldron High School in 1938, then worked for Wabash Railroad before serving in the U. S. Army in WWII in the Combat Engineers in North Africa and then Burma for four years. He retired from Tecumseh Products after 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 34.

Virginia P. “Suzie” Dollison

Virginia P. “Suzie” Dollison, age 92, of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Tecumseh, passed away April 23, 2013.Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Brookside Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Myers officiating. Messages to the family may be made online at www.pursefuneralhome.com.

James Lee Anderson

James Lee Anderson, age 89, of Tecumseh died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at ProMedica Bixby Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born June 7, 1923 in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Harold and Lillian (Simonsen) Anderson. On June 4, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minn., he married Emily Wheeler. Emily preceded him in death on November 15, 2012. Jim attended Cal Poly and graduated from the University of California-Berkley with a degree in Economics. He retired in July of 1988 from United Bank & Trust as Trust Officer and Vice President. Jim served his country during WWII as a pilot in the U.S. Navy.

Hyundai eyes large area of Macon Township for proving grounds location

MACON – Residents of Macon Township attended a meeting Monday night, June 3, to get information about the possibility of Hyundai locating a proving grounds on land currently owned by Ceres Partners. The information is speculative, and residents learned township officials know very little.The property believed to be of interest to Hyundai is a large segment of land, part of 1,250 acres, bordered by Ford Highway to the west, Pennington Road to the north and Welch Road to the south.

Brooks selected to state Hospice Dream Team

Gloria Brooks has been a nurse for 25 years, but found her true calling six years ago when she started working for Hospice of Lenawee. Her enthusiasm for her work and her love of her patients inspired Brooks’ supervisor to nominate her for the Hospice of Michigan Dream Team. Brooks was selected as the registered nurse representative on the Dream Team.“I was flabbergasted,” Brooks said of the honor.“They look for exceptional staff members that stand out among all the rest,” said Patient Care Coordinator, Linda Anderson, RN, BSN. “I felt Gloria measured up to that expectation.

Taking flight from cancer

Kelly Rinne, Vice President of Mortgage Sales for United Bank and Trust, has learned sweetness can come from life’s bitterest moments. It took a diagnosis of Stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2009 to inspire Rinne to fulfill many personal dreams.Along the way she has made friends, inspired her sons and beat her cancer into remission.

Vacancy opens on TPS board with Oren departure

Tecumseh Public School trustee Matt Oren announced Thursday, May 30, that he was vacating his seat on the school board effective immediately. “Tuesday night was my last meeting,” said Oren, referring to the meeting of the board that was postponed by one day due to the Memorial Day holiday.Oren said that he and his wife Pam, who will be leaving her post with the school district as an advocate for homeless students, will be leaving Tecumseh Friday, May 31.

TMS students travel to Gettysburg

To the Editor,We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the adults, students, and local businesses who made the 2013 Tecumseh Middle School 8th grade trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania a wonderful success. Sr. Master Sandoval’s ATA Black Belt Academy generously granted our trip the concession stand rights for the November, 2012 ATA Tournament held at Tecumseh High School.

To the Editor,In the last week, the sixth graders at Tecumseh Middle School have hosted Pen Pal breakfasts for over one hundred community members. We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to these adult mentors for writing our students this school year. Each day, the students look forward to mail call and cannot wait to reply. Group aims to network Lenawee County with looping trail system

The Raisin Township Board of Trustees met in a special session on Monday, May 20 at 10 a.m. to discuss possibilities to expand recreational opportunities in the township. The future of the township’s roads also entered into the discussion.Adrian’s DDA Director and Economic Development Coordinator, Chris Miller, gave a presentation and invited the trustees to consider becoming members of the Complete Streets Coalition.

Board offers ‘olive branch’ to former wrestling coach

The Tecumseh School Board was in session for only 19 minutes to conduct its regular business at Monday night’s regular meeting. The trustees then retired to executive session to hear arguments regarding the decision not to renew Tecumseh High School varsity wrestling coach Tony Greathouse’s contract for the coaching position for the coming year. Greathouse was put on a probationary agreement at the end of the 2011-2012 season by THS athletic director and assistant principal Casey Randolph, with the consent of Supt.

City of Tecumseh receives A+ Standard & Poor’s rating

The city of Tecumseh recently received an A+/Stable rating from Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, denoting a “stable outlook” regarding its general obligation bond commitments.“Every organization typically gets a bond rating, which is an overall assessment of the city’s financial condition,” said Kevin Welch, Tecumseh City Manager. “What it would typically be used for is if you wanted to borrow money. In that case we would receive an A+ rating, which is good.” The rating survey assesses the community a municipality resides in as well as other factors affecting its financial position.
