Seniors in Tecumseh and the surrounding area need look no further than the Tecumseh Senior Center if they are seeking fun and fellowship. Each weekday, a nutritious lunch is served there, costing those over 60 just $3 (under 60 is $4), and a host of games and activities are planned each day. Housed in the Tecumseh Community Center, the program is part of the Lenawee County Departmet on Aging.
“We have a huge line-dancing group that comes in on Mondays from 9:30-11 a.m.,” said Jennifer Clary, director of the program. “Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9-10 a.m., we have a large group that comes in for exercise.”
Tuesdays, a number of tables are set up for seniors to enjoy card games along with each other’s company. Games such as Pinochle, Pepper and Euchre take place each week.“It’s nice to get together and play cards,” said Doris Popelar, who joined friends Nancy Getz, Clara Furgason, and Claire Pinvidic on Tuesday. Getz said that one of the primary reasons she comes to the Center is for the inexpensive and nutritious lunches. “The food is excellent,” she said. “I come every day and I’m never disappointed.” Getz said the fellowship is also nice. “We’re all seniors and we realize that and we’re kind to each other because we know what we’re going through in our lives.”
