June Eileen Ohlman

June Eileen Ohlman, age, 85 of Tipton passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Hospice of Lenawee, Hospice Home, surrounded by her family. She was born March 23, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Clemens and Laura (Utley) Nichter. On December 1, 1945 in Sylvania, Ohio she married Joseph Ohlman and he preceded her in death on November 24, 1986. June had a job during W.W.II packaging “C” rations. She worked at Kroger’s for a short time and retired from DuPont in Toledo after 21 years in 1980.

Romayne M. Hollenback

Romayne Mae (Hoffman) Hollenback went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2013 while surrounded by her loving family.Romayne was born on May 18, 1919 in Scranton, Pa, to August P. and Mabel (Evans) Hoffman. She was born into a wonderful home with four sisters — Arlene, Mabel, Dorothy, and Evelyn — and lots of cousins close by. Then one day she met the love of her life, Russell L. Hollenback Sr., at Scranton High School. After some courting, they were married October 12, 1940, spending nearly 65 loving years together. Three children were born to them — Russell L. March Mingle replaces Taste and Savor to benefit CISTA

Thousands of people have enjoyed “Taste” and “Savor” fundraisers for Communities In Schools of the Tecumseh Area (CISTA), but this year the two events have been merged into one. The new event is called “March Mingle,” which will be held Saturday, March 16, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.That is not the only big change. Formerly, “Taste” was held at Tecumseh High School, and “Savor” at Cambrian Assisted Living. This year, “March Mingle” will be at the new AJ Smith Recreation Center, 810 N. Evans St., in Tecumseh.

Tecumseh City Manager announces goals and objectives for 2013

During its Monday, March 4 meeting, Tecumseh City Council approved a list of 2013 goals and objectives proposed for Tecumseh City Manager Kevin Welch. Welch pointed out that some of the items listed are continuations of previous goals.Welch plans to be working on the following goals and objectives throughout the coming year:• Economic Development success. Welch sees this as one of the “single most effective ways to solve the current and future budget issues.” Success in this area helps create more jobs and opportunities for the city.

Local performer and THS senior accepted into prestigious University of Michigan program

Tecumseh High School (THS) senior Jordyn Norkey has had her eye on Broadway ever since she was a little girl and watched Beauty and the Beast in New York City.“I remember turning to my mom and saying, ‘This is what I want to do,’” Jordyn recalls of that first experience with Broadway. “Musical theater is my passion. It always has been and I feel I have enough determination and motivation to actually succeed in it.”Another path has just been cleared, advancing Jordyn toward her goal by some major steps.

Tecumseh to face Adrian in District basketball final

Tecumseh High School’s varsity boys basketball team defeated Airport 35-32 on Wednesday, March 6, at Dundee in the Class B District semifinal. The win advances the Indians to the District championship on Friday, March 8, against Adrian, beginning at 7 p.m. The Maples defeated Dundee 59-40 to set up the rematch against Tecumseh. The two teams split their games during the regular season. Adrian defeated Tecumseh 41-39 at home in the first meeting between the teams this season.

Supports bill to give school districts power to decide gun issue

To the Editor,I applaud the Daily Telegram for its position as expressed Sunday, March 2, in “Our View,” page A8. The article recognized the vulnerability and danger to the schools because of the laws in Michigan that prohibit the concealed carry of firearms on or in the school property even by trained and qualified holders of concealed pistol licenses.

THS grads form team for friend in Komen cancer walk benefit

When students sign their classmates’ yearbooks, they often write sentiments such as, “Best Friends Forever,” but in many cases, they find themselves on paths that separate them. A group of students who graduated from Tecumseh High School between the years 1992 and 1994 have gone against the grain, however, and remained close friends.

Sutton School no longer considered for housing Raisin Police Department

Raisin Township Board of Trustees decided that it would no longer consider an option of housing the Raisin Township Police Department at the old Sutton School building on the Milton C. Porter Center campus on Sutton Road. The township holds a 10-year lease with Lenawee Intermed-iate School District, entered into for one dollar more than a year ago. Township officials have been exploring the feasibility and costs of remodeling the structure. Two estimates for design engineering had been gathered and the township was awaiting a third.

Raisin Township Board creates Department of Public Safety

Raisin Township approved a resolution establishing a Department of Public Safety at its Monday, March 4, board meeting. The measure passed by a vote of 4-1 with Trustee Debra Brousseau voting no. Trustees Larry Crittenden and Tom Hawkins were out of state.

Tecumseh’s Jordan Richard makes history

History was made by Tecumseh High School junior Jordan Richard on Saturday, March 2, by winning back-to-back Michigan High School Athletic Association Division II girls singles bowling titles.Not one other champion has been able to win consecutive titles in any MHSAA division, girls or boys, since the program records began being listed in 2004.

Four Indians earn All-State wrestling honors

Four Tecumseh High School wrestlers earned All-State honors at the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division II Individual State finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Saturday, March 2.Finishing in the Top 8 of their respective weight classes gave Tecumseh senior Joe Rebottaro (285), juniors Ricky Azelton (103) and Preston Pelham (215), and freshman Landon Pelham (189) All-State honors.Tecumseh’s head coach Tony Greathouse said that Landon Pelham made history by becoming the first ever freshman to earn All-State honors in the Indian’s wrestling program.Landon Pelham won his first

Nelson Lee Pask

Nelson Lee Pask, age 50, of Clinton, passed away March 1, 2013. He was born October 21, 1962 in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Calvin and Billie (Shepherd) Pask.Nelson attended Clinton High School. He was an accomplished musician and DJ and enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He is survived by his son Brandon Pask of Adrian; father, Calvin (Melinda) Pask of Onsted; two sisters, Linda (Dave) Fowler of Clayton, and Julie (Mike) Wallace of Cement City; and two brothers, Alan Pask of Brooklyn, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Pask of Ypsilanti. He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie in 1993.

Lois E. Claus, age 78, of Manchester, passed away March 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the J. Franklin “Frank” Schroeder

Franklin “Frank” Schroeder, age 79 of Tecumseh, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh under the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born July 18, 1933 in Macon Twp., Mich., the son of Arthur John and LaVina (Price) Schroeder. On March 26, 1955 he married Ardyth Eaton; sadly she preceded him in death on March 31, 2009 after 54 years of marriage.Frank attended Miller School through eighth grade, and graduated from Britton High School in 1951.

William Meldin Raeburn

William Meldin Raeburn passed away of heart failure on March 1, 2013 at his home in Lakeland, Fla.William was born on September 7, 1937 to William and Susan Raeburn. He graduated from Ann Arbor High School, Eastern Michigan College, and received a masters degree from the University of Michigan.

Callie Sue Whitehead

Callie Sue Whitehead, age, 20, of Tipton died on Monday, March 04, 2013 at home and was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus. She was born May 29, 1992 in Adrian to Victor and Susan (Williams) Whitehead. Callie attended the LISD Trenton Hills Learning Center and Grace Point Evangelical Free Church. Callie had a special smile and was very much loved by her family.Callie is survived by her parents; three sisters, Chelsie, Hailey and Harley; one brother, Hayden all of Tipton; maternal grandparents, David and Jane Williams of Tipton, and paternal grandmother, Janice Whitehead of Tipton.
