Tecumseh Public Schools should cut salaries, pensions before asking to reflect existing economy

To the Editor,

So let me get this straight, William Van Tuyle, my mortgage loan officer, believes that we should be assessed extra to pay for his child’s extracurricular activites? This is all because we have recently invested in a second piece of property that happens to be in the Tecumseh School District. We looked at properties in several counties, even other states, but decided to reinvest in one of the many properties that were on the market in downtown Tecumseh.

There are many people like ourselves in the private sector that work hard, scrimp, save and sacrifice for many years in order to afford to purchase private or commercial properties as an investment for our future. We are not gifted with golden parachute pensions provided by the taxpayers like our local teachers. We are accountable and responsible citizens who work diligently not to live beyond our means which includes cutting back on expenditures during tough times like these.

This is the same school system that has wasted money defying the will of the people in regards to the football field. They have spent thousands of dollars to run a commercial telling everyone that they are great. It doesn’t count if you have to pay someone to say it. You have to earn greatness on merit, otherwise it is only fantasy. This school system should make the necessary cuts in salary and pensions to reflect the existing economy.

Of course this millage will pass. It’s the majority against the few. The community organizers are rallying the troops. This millage would go down in flames if everyone had to share the burden. It’s the oldest Marxist trick in the book. Pit one citizen against another. At a time when Tecumseh should be encouraging local investment, you are doing your best to drive it away.
