Mayor Richard Johnson recently received a letter last week notifying the City of Tecumseh of a Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) grant award of approximately $287,000. The grants are incentives for downtown property owners to rehabilitate second and third story levels of their buildings. Tecumseh Economic Development Director Paula Holtz said property owners will receive $35,000 per unit developed. Part of the funding also goes to other costs associated with the process.Two downtown property owners have made application for the funding.

Marilyn Louise Louwerens, age 82, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla. and formerly of Clinton died peacefully with her loving family by her side under the gentle care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born June 28, 1931, in Clinton, the daughter of George and Elnora (Walker) Brooks. She married Douglas Vogel in 1950. She then married Henry Louwerens in 1969; he preceded her in death. Marilyn was a teacher in the Deerfield and Adrian school districts. She then taught in Florida until her retirement in the 1980’s and then continued to tutor children.

Wanda V. Cavin, age 88, of Tecumseh, passed away August 19, 2013.Wanda was born September 10, 1924 in Ridgeway Twp.. MI the daughter of Ernest and Hazel (Bushroe) Spohr. On February 10, 1948 she married Howard Cavin in Britton, MI and he preceded her in death November 5, 2003.Wanda was employed 41 years at Herrick Memorial Hospital as a nurse in the obstetrics department, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene.

Local autism activist Melissa Archer is looking forward to the Second Annual Tee for Technology on Sunday, Sept. 15, at Wolf Creek Golf Club in Adrian. “I’m excited about the whole thing,” she said. “We still need teams. We still need sponsors.”For many families with children on the autism spectrum, language communication is the greatest barrier.

Kent Ellsworth Losee, 45, a resident of Clinton Township, was arraigned Thursday, Aug. 15, in Lenawee County District Court on felony charges of stalking a neighbor’s 15-year-old daughter. The girl’s family had filed a personal protection order, signed by Judge Margaret Noe, on October 1, 2012.According to court records, Losee faces the following felony charges: Count 1 — Stalking a minor, aggravated; and Count 2 — Computer used to commit a felony. A preliminary hearing was set for Monday, Aug. 26, at 1 p.m. in Judge Laura Schaedler’s Lenawee County District Courtroom.

To the Editor,To the people of the Tecumseh area, I do feel bad that I was not able to get the word out to you about a very special event that recently happened in our town, concerning Tecumseh’s heritage. July 22 through July 29 we hosted a fly-in for Meyers Airplanes, built right here. All three models hold exceptional status in the aviation community.Considering the price of Avgas [aviation gasoline] we had a remarkable turn out. Six Meyers OTW Biplanes, built here in 1940-1943. A Myers 145, built here in the 50s and 14 Meyers 200s. Several came from over 2,000 miles away.
