Woman thanks local restaurant, others for help with medical bills

To the Editor,I would like to thank Basil Boys for their generosity in donating part of their profits on Nov. 13 to help me pay the medical bills I have incurred during my cancer treatment. Applauds Rubio for faith, dodging media questions

To the Editor.Marco Rubio is being attacked because he believes The Word of God is true — well, God bless him for being a true son of the Christian faith! Rather than trying to get into some deep argument with concepts and principles difficult and complicated to explain, he dodged the media. Good! He knew they just saw a soundbite to exploit attempting to make him seem an idiot and someone unfit for political office.

Neighbors give woman special gift with Christmas Wish Tree

Tecumseh resident Meigan Maher has been undergoing some difficult times as she’s battled cancer for the past two years, but her neighbors in the Pontiac Trail cul-de-sac recently put a smile on her face when they decorated a tall pine tree in her yard for Christmas.Meigan said it all started a few weeks ago when she was outdoors trying to clean up her yard a bit and noticed one of her neighbors, Cassie Hollen-beck, outdoors.“When you have cancer, it’s kind of rare to be out in the yard and nice to see another person, so we visited for awhile,” Meigan said.

Waite wins state championship

Tecumseh High School garnered another state champion on Saturday, Nov. 17 with senior swimmer Rachel Waite placing first in a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 3 swimming event at Eastern Michigan University.As a team the Indians placed 17th with 43 points, dropping five spots from last year’s finish, however Waite’s state championship was Tecumseh’s first in swimming since 2008 when Scott Yarbrough picked up a state title with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Board approves plan to drill under Sutton school for gas/oil

Tecumseh School Board members voted unanimously to approve a lease that will allow drilling for gas and oil under Sutton Elementary School at Monday night’s meeting.Energy company spokes-man Thomas Rasmussen was in attendance at the meeting, and he commended the board on the comprehensiveness of the agreement. “You have done an excellent job of protecting the school and its property,” he told the trustees.

CISTA recognized by school board for service to students

The Tecumseh School Board gave special recognition to the Communities In Schools of the Tecumseh Area (CISTA) staff members at Monday night’s regular meeting.Supt. Mike McAran commended the non-profit group, which is independent but affiliated with Tecumseh Public Schools (TPS), for the many programs and services that the organization provides as a liaison between students at all levels and the business people and professionals of the area. McAran acknowledged the organization’s work on programs to prevent bullying, increase self-esteem, and encourage students to continue their education.

Lights of Love for Hospice is Sunday, December 2

Hospice of Lenawee will be sponsoring Lights of Love Trees in seven Lenawee communities, including Tecumseh and Clinton, with a tree-lighting ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. Tecumseh’s tree is placed at Tecumseh City Hall, and Clinton’s is at the Smith Kimball Community Center. Those who would like to dedicate a light in honor of someone may send donations to Hospice of Lenawee, 1903 Wolf Creek Highway, Adrian, MI 49221, or contact Hospice at 253.2323.

Frank Perry Keeney

Frank Perry Keeney, age 80, Ann Arbor, died at home on November 26, 2012. He was born July 29, 1932, in Tecumseh, to John Rogers and Dorothy (Elton) Keeney. On December 31, 1952, he married Kathleen Elaine Schultz in Onsted and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 -1956 and six years in the Army reserve. He was an avid motorcycle rider and did many cross country excursions with his wife. He was a gifted mechanic with the ability to fix anything that moved.

Sandra Kaye Johnson

Sandra Kaye Johnson, age 63, of Addison, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012. She was born March 29, 1949, in Detroit, to Kenneth and Earline (Cox) Johnson. Sandra was retired from General Motors. She played hammered dulcimer and was a member of Uncle Carl’s Dulcimer Club. Sandra was an avid reader and a member of a book club. She loved nature and gardening.

Robert J. Cooper

Robert J. Cooper, age 78, of Tecumseh, passed away, November 23, 2012.Robert was born July 22, 1934 in Tecumseh, Michigan, the son of George and Geneva (Bennett) Cooper.Robert married Carol A. McClure in 1996 at the Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church and she survives.Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant. Robert was a member of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge No. 69 F.& A.M., and also served as Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church, which he dearly loved.

Tecumseh senior receives full Air Force ROTC scholarship

At a time when many seniors are scrambling to gather materials for scholarship applications, Tecumseh High School senior and Lenawee Intermediate School District TECH Center student Anna Wendt is breathing a little easier. She was recently offered an Air Force ROTC Commander’s Leadership scholarship, which will pay for tuition, books, fees and a stipend at Eastern Michigan University next fall.

Living Water Mission drills two new wells in Kenya

Pastor Tom Hawkins and a mission team recently returned from Kenya where NewSong Church and the Tecumseh community have been supporting a Living Water Mission. This was the fourth such trip, and Hawkins said the team assisted in the drilling of new wells.“We developed two new wells this trip,” said Hawkins.

Lynelle Eloise “Lynn” Cook, age 85 of Tecumseh, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Herrick Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was born June 15, 1927, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Roy Franklin and Ruth (Robirds) Bales. On August 13, 1950, she married Carlton L.

Tecumseh Coalition for Youth endorses use of MAPS to cut down on prescription drug abuse

The Tecumseh Coalition for Youth continues to support families in the battle against drug abuse in local youth. Its recent focus is on utilization of a state program that helps track prescriptions of controlled substances.

After making regular trips to Tecumseh to assist customers with their propane needs from Baker’s home office in Monroe, it became clear to owner Gary Klemz that Baker Propane, Inc. and Baker’s Gas & Welding Supplies, Inc. would be a good fit for Tecumseh. His aunt and uncle started the business in 1936, now run by Gary and his brother Tom, and has expanded to seven locations across southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio.“We’ve been coming up here for a while from Monroe,” Klemz said.

Tecumseh Pops Orchestra, Community Chorus to present ‘Ring in the Season’

The Tecumseh Pops Orchestra and Community Chorus will bring “Ring in the Season,” to the Tecumseh Center for the Arts on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3:30 p.m. The performance is a concert featuring holiday and seasonal music performed by both groups.
