FTCP thanks Wild Iris owner for sponsoring fundraising event

To the Editor,

The Friends of the Tecumseh Community Pool Board would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to Nanci Pelham Prezioso of The Wild Iris.

Living in a small community allows each of us to make an impact on our neighbors, friends and community members. Nanci is doing this consistently in our community and we, in FTCP, are proud that she has chosen our organization as one of many to be included in her generous acts of kindness.

The Wild Iris held a fundraiser for the Friends of the Tecumseh Community on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 5-9 p.m. An evening of shopping and friendship where 20 percent of all proceeds were donated to FTCP. The funds will be used for scholarship, equipment and awards for our community pool users.

Dr. Guild staying busy in Tennessee, sends wishes for holidays

To the Editor,

It hardly seems possible that it has been a year and a half since we moved from Tecumseh to the Chattanooga, Tennessee area to be close to our children and grandchildren. Life has been very busy for both of us with volunteering for church functions, nutritional classes, smoking cessation seminars and elementary school health education. My volunteering to teach nursing and medical/dental assistant students; anatomy, physiology, pharmacy, as well as nutritional classes, has kept me from following my wife around the grocery store with a cart! A promise I made to her when I retired!

It is so much fun taking care of grandkids. Speaking of grandchildren, Father’s Day this year was especially fun for both of us as I got to deliver grandchild no. 9 born to our daughter in West Virginia.

You are greatly missed. May this season, where we celebrate the birth of our dear Savior, be happy for each of you and the new year a blessed one.

Dr. Gordon and Carol Guild

The Little Garden Club wishes to thank the merchants and all the other people who purchased Christmas Wreaths that made our sale a success. We are already thinking about what we will plant in the Gladys Pearson Garden and the three other ones we have in the city.

We welcome anyone who might be interested in joining our club. We meet the third Tuesday of each month from March to December. You can call Ella Bell at 423-5159 for more information.

Again, thanks to all who purchased a wreath and made our sale a success.

Final stats have Indians breaking team records

The final statistic sheets have been totaled for the 2012-2013 Tecumseh varsity football season and the Indians surpassed their top numbers in several categories to set new season records.

Tecumseh head coach Al Romano said he wasn’t aware of how well the Indians had done until having his statistician, Craig Freestone, crunch the season’s final numbers. The final tally in several categories outdid the Indians’ previous totals.

“We had a lot of accomplishments this year, and they have a lot to be proud of,” Romano said right after finishing the season in the regional final.

He was very pleased with the direction the overall program was heading.

“We had a freshmen team that was 7-2, a JV team that was 7-2 and this group right here won nine football games,” he said. “I don’t know if we can ask any more than that. I think a lot of people surprised a lot of people.”

The final totals certainly surprised a lot of folks with the Indians scoring more points and touchdowns than ever before.

Tecumseh broke its points scored record with 404 while scoring a record 59 touchdowns. The Indians tallied a whopping 4,614 offensive yards to set a new record.

In addition, the Indians set the new passing completions record with 163 and passing touchdown record with 27.

At the end of the season banquet, the Most Valuable Player award went to quarterback Ben Dreslinski.

The Coaches Award went to John Terry while the Most Improved Player award went to Spencer Hite.

Dreslinski set three individual records, the most completed passes in a season with 162, the most touchdown passes in a game with five and the passing touchdown record with 27.

Spencer Adams set the new record for Most Receptions in a Game with nine and the Most Touchdowns Receiving with 11.

Many of the Indians players were recognized for their efforts at the end of the season.

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) White Division listings included 17 Indians.

Redskins’ boys win three in a row at home, travel to Britton, beat Patriots

Clinton’s varsity boys basketball team opened its season with a 62-39 win over Manchester at home and followed with a pair of wins at home just days later.

The Redskins traveled to Britton to face Britton Deerfield on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and improved their record to 4-0 with a 54-40 Tri-County Conference victory.

Britton Deerfield’s big man Devin Gruber scored four of the Patriot’s eight points in the first quarter and helped keep Clinton off balance to give the Patriots an 8-6 lead after one quarter of play.

Clinton quickly took over the lead in the second quarter with T. J. Baker laying a ball in the net and Cullen Zimmerman tagging the net from the three point line. BD’s Landon Handy hit the bucket from the field but the ‘Skins went to the line and added five more points for a 16-10 lead with 4:15 left in the second quarter.

The Patriots toughened up and cut the gap to just four points by the end of the first half with Zach Bearinger adding two from the free throw line and hitting the net from the field. Clinton finished the quarter with a 23-19 lead after having Ricky Miller add two points on a put-back just before the halftime buzzer sounded.

Clinton pushed its lead to 28-19 early in the third quarter but Handy and Bearinger helped pull the Patriots within one point at 31-30 by combining for eight points with 3:08 remaining in the period.

Baker hit a three pointer for Clinton’s last shot of the third quarter but BD’s Handy answered right back just before the buzzer to send the Patriots into the final quarter down by three points at 38-35.

Come from behind effort falls short

A slow start by Tecumseh’s varsity girls basketball team in their home opener on Friday, Dec. 7, turned into a mad dash come from behind effort that forced visiting Columbia Central into overtime. Despite the added minutes, the Indians lost the contest by just one point at 39-38 and fell to 0-2 in the early season.

The Eagles scored one less point in the opening quarter than Tecumseh did the entire first half. Tecumseh scored just five points in the first quarter and added eight more in the second quarter with junior Carley LaPlant connecting on a pair of shots from the field and Mattie Wright hitting one from the field and two from the free throw line.

The Indians finished the first half behind 16-13 but began a come back in the third quarter. Tecumseh outscored the Eagles 14-10 in the third quarter to head into the fourth with a 27-26 lead.

Columbia Central tied the contest 34-34 by the end of the fourth quarter, scoring eight points to Tecumseh’s seven in regulation. The Eagles went on to outscore Tecumseh 5-4 to win the game in overtime.

LaPlant and Nicole Lipnichan each scored 12 points to lead the Indians’ offense.

Wright added nine points while both Hannah Galloway and Kayla Kormos added six points each.
