Adrian Symphony Orchestra to present ‘The Andrews Sisters’

ADRIAN — The Adrian Symphony Swing Band will be performing a pops concert, The Andrews Sisters, on Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m. at Dawson Auditorium located on the Adrian College campus. Preceding the concert outside of Dawson Auditorium will be a free Tune-Up Party for all concert goers with the latest cars on display from area dealerships. The Andrews Sisters concert features vocalists Elizabeth Major, Monica Swartout-Bebow, Wendy Bloom and area jazz musicians recreating the sounds and times of one of the most memorable female trios in history. The ASO honored the music of the Andrews Sisters five seasons ago with a sold out performance in Dawson Auditorium. The same Ann Arbor-based vocal trio is performing on this season’s concert, and the program reprises many of those original titles, while also offering many additional hits not performed on that first program.“The Andrews Sisters took the world by storm, and their music has endured the test of time. This program looks back at the era of a great vocal trio, remembers their hits, and the solace and joys they offered to a world at war,” said Music Director John Thomas Dodson. “This is a narrated concert, so each musical number will be placed in context of the times in which it became famous. We’ll learn about the rise of the Andrews Sisters, the political developments in Europe and the United States that defined their era, and we’ll experience many of the classic songs made famous by the trio with new layers of meaning.” All ticket holders are invited to come early and kick the tires on today’s latest hot rods and cherry rides at the pre-concert Tune-Up Party at 7 p.m. outside the auditorium.ASO Guest Artists appear through a grant from the Maurice and Dorothy Stubnitz Foundation. The Adrian Symphony Orchestra is supported in part through awards from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Adrian Symphony Orchestra 2013-2014 Pops Concert Series is sponsored by Wacker Chemical. The Andrews Sisters concert is sponsored by United Bank and Trust. The pre-concert Tune-Up Party is sponsored by Clift Buick GMC, Dave Knapp Ford Lincoln, and Greg Bell Chevrolet Cadillac. Tickets for premium, general, and economy reserved seating sections are available. Prices for adult tickets are $29/$26/$18, senior tickets are $27/$24/$18 and student tickets are $15/$12. Tickets may be purchased by calling the ASO office at 264. 3121, visiting www.adriansymphony.org or at the box office in Dawson Auditorium beginning at 6 p.m. on the evening of the performance.
