Ann Arbor Huron wins Tecumseh golf Invitational

TECUMSEH - Sunshine greeted participants of Tecumseh's annual golf invitational on Friday, April 24, at Hantz Golf Club.Ten schools competed in the tournament and Ann Arbor Huron led the pack by placing first with a score of 310. Arbor Skyline carded a team score of 320 while Saline placed third with a score of 335. Tecumseh entered two teams, orange and black. The orange team scored 349 and placed fifth with exchange student Oscar Widen leading the squad. He carded 82, which placed him in the top 10 for a medal. Kody McCrate and Chad Moore each carded rounds of 88 for the Indians.Tecumseh's black team placed seventh led by Drew Whelan's round of 89 while Damon Hassenzahl and Drew Kapnick each carded 92."We still have work to do. The boy's are missing greens in regulation which makes for a long day scrambling to get up and down for par," said Kevin Osworth. "When you rely so heavily on the short game and putter to get you through the day, eventually it breaks you down mentally." Only one birdie was carded by the Indians' 10 players. "...That isn't going to get it done. Going forward we will continue our efforts to improve our putting stats and hitting greens in reg.," said Osworth.Tecumseh attended a quad match hosted by Bedford on Monday, April 20, at the Legacy Golf Club in Blissfield. Bedford and Monroe tied for first place with a team score of 170. Tecumseh carded 179 and Adrian 246. Tecumseh senior Alex Gillen carded the Indians' low round with a 43. Widen carded 44 while Sophomore Whelan shot a 49 in his varsity debut.On Wednesday, April 22, the Indians traveled to Chelsea for their first Southeastern Conference White Division match and lost 171-182. Widen carded the Indians' low round with a 43 while Gillen was just two strokes behind with 45.On Monday, Tecumseh (165) competed at the Lenawee Country Club in a quad match against Ann Arbor Huron (158), Ann Arbor Skyline and Adrian (197).McCrate was the event medalist with a round of 37.Widen carded 41, Kapnick, 43, and Whelan shot a 44.Tecumseh hosts the annual county tournament on Saturday.
