Area voters to face ballot issues Nov. 4

When area residents head to the ballot box, they will not only be voting for new board and council members, but also a number of school and road millages. While every ballot will be different, many local voters will be voting for countywide seats.Local voters will have to decide between County Road Commissioner incumbent Richard A. Youtsey, Democrat, and Republican challenger Mike Slusarski. Richard Bernstein, Doug Dern, Bill Murphy, James Robert Redford and Brian Zahra are running for two, eight-year terms for Justice of Supreme Court. Kerry L. Morgan, Deborah A. Thomas and David Viviano are all running for a partial term ending on January 1, 2017 also for Justice of Supreme Court. Three are running for three available seats for Judge of Court of Appeals District 1. They are Karen Fort Hood, Christopher M. Murray and Michael J. Talbot. Judge Margaret M.S. Noe is running unopposed for Judge of 39th Circuit Court.Jonathan L. Poer is running for Judge of 2nd A District Court. Anna Marie Anzalone is Poer’s challenger. Anzalone was appointed in May as a judge in Lenawee County Circuit Court. TecumsehTecumseh voters will be voting for Jack Baker for mayor, who is running unopposed. Gary L. Fox, Stephanie G. Harmon and Ronald Wimple are running for three vacant seats on city council. Current Tecumseh School Board members Deborah J. Johnson-Berges, Jimmie Rice and Edward W. Tritt, board president, are running for three seats. A partial term ending on December 31, 2016 has write-in candidate Steve Lynn running. Current board member Stanley Ames is not seeking reelection. Four are running for four seats for the District Library Board Member for Tecumseh. The four candidates are Charles F. Gehrke, Stanley M. Legenc, Matthew P. Linke and Jane Poczatek. David M. Stimpson is the only candidate for County Commissioner 1st District. Tecumseh voters will also be voting on a bond proposal for roads and the operating millage for Tecumseh Public Schools. The bond proposal will allow the city to borrow $2.25 million, which will be repaid over five years, for the purpose of paying the cost of installing, improving, replacing and reconstructing streets and sidewalks in the City of Tecumseh. The school is asking for a renewal of the operating millage, which is required for the school to receive its revenue per public allowance and renews the millage that will expire with the 2015 tax levy. The millage is non-homestead, meaning it will only affect industrial, commercial, some agriculture property and second homes. Raisin Township Raisin Township voters in Precinct 1 will not only be voting for Tecumseh School Board members, district library and renewal of the operating millage, but also board members for the Adrian, Blissfield, and Britton school districts. Voters in both precincts will be voting for Ralph Tillotson for county commissioner.Adrian candidates are Mike Ballard, Jon Baucher, Edward J. Engle, III, and Terence R. Sheehan. Four seats are available. Scott Abbott, Michael Cole, Vicky Lombard and Tyler C. Wyse are running for three seats on the Blissfield School Board. Candidates for Britton School Board include Benjamin Allshouse, Douglas A. Mayher, Jr., and Yvonne Thomas. Raisin voters will also be voting to renew the Britton Deerfield Schools operating millage. Voters in Raisin’s Precinct 2 will be voting for Tecumseh School Board members, district library and operating millage renewal, and Adrian School Board candidates.Clinton TownshipResidents in Precinct 2 in Clinton Township will have the choice between a slew of incumbent, new, and write-in candidates for various school board seats. Two seats are open for a two-year term. Voters will have to choose between Wanda Heinz, incumbent; Kevin Kelly, recently appointed; and write in candidates Michael Walters and Theodore Burton. Four candidates are running for two four-year terms. The incumbent running is Kelly Schmidt. The other candidates are Kevin Ward, Mark Smith, and Dan Jurasek, who is a write-in candidate.Two six-year terms are available with Board President Dale Wingerd and Jeff Clark running as incumbent candidates. Raymond Drew and Terrance Strand are also running for the two seats. Voters will also be asked to renew Clinton Community Schools’ operating millage of 18 mills for the 2015-16 school year. Four candidates are running for four seats on the Smith-Kimball Board. Those candidates are Shirley S. Campbell, Tamara Forro, Frances Faye Gamboe and Mary D. Houghton. Doris A Kemmer, Bonnie L. Peters and Timothy P. Waters are running unopposed for Village of Clinton Trustee seats. The Clinton Library Township board member Nancy Wilt is up for reelection. Voters in Clinton Township Precinct 1 will be voting for both Tecumseh and Clinton School Board candidates along with voting for both renewal requests for both school districts.Both precincts have Chris Wittenbach, Republican, running for Lenawee County Commissioner, 9th District. Tecumseh TownshipResidents in Tecumseh Township who make it to the ballot box on November 4 will be voting on Tecumseh and Clinton School Board candidates and operating millage renewal requests along with the Library District Board members form Tecumseh. Stimpson is their lone candidate for Lenawee County Commissioner. Macon TownshipVoters who make it to vote in Macon Township will be voting for school board candidates from Tecumseh, Clinton and Britton Deerfield School Districts. They will also be voting on all three renewal operating millages. Wittenbach is the township’s candidate for Lenawee County Commissioner. Ridgeway TownshipRegistered voters in Ridgeway Township have two candidates running for Lenawee County Commissioner; Robert P. Knoblauch, Republican, and Stephanie Thompson, Democrat. Voters will also be decided the fate of a proposition of renewing 1 mill for a period of 2014 to 2017 for road and bridge maintenance. The renewal will raise an estimated $57,505.08 in the first year. Also on the ballot is the Britton Deerfield and Tecumseh School District Board elections and renewal of both districts’ operating millage.
