Audette Althea Vollmer

Audette Althea Vollmer, age 88 of Tipton died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 at Cambrian Assisted Living. She was born April 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Clair and Aurel Julia (White) Force.  On June 27, 1948 at Tipton Community Congregational Church she married William Richard Vollmer. He preceded her in death in 1985.

Audette was proud to have the family home registered as a Centennial Farm in Michigan. She was a member of the Tipton Community Congregational Church for over 70 years. Audette was a member of the Grand Temple of the Order of Pythian Sisters Minnehaha Temple No. 43, receiving the rank of Past Chief on Jan. 23, 1957 and became a 50-year member on August 17, 1998. She served on Franklin Twp. Election Committee, U.S Census Bureau, and was a delegate to the Republican Convention. Audette worked as a shipping clerk at Wacker Chemical and as a customer service clerk at Martin’s in Tecumseh. She was a proud member of the Lamplighter Band playing the saxophone along side her husband Bill who played the trumpet.

Audette is survived by her children, Deborah Kay (Mark) Hayford, Wendy Sue (Jerry Haynes) Brandt, Claudia Ann Connors and William Richard (Sherry) Vollmer, Jr; 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by Herb Simpson, her companion in later years.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Cathi King officiating with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial was in Tipton Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or God’s Helping Hands at the Tipton Community Church.
