Audra Fay (Carrouth) Cantrell

Audra Fay (Carrouth) Cantrell, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and friend passed away, surrounded by family in her home, at age 87 on May 16, 2016 in Arlington Wash. Audra Fay was born in 1928 in Beaverton, Ala., the second oldest child of Londie Carrouth and Ola (Webb) Carrouth. Audra Fay married Ottis Cantrell on February 5, 1947 in Beaverton, Ala. They were married 66 years. After WWII they moved to Michigan and lived near Tecumseh, Mich., where they raised six children; Dan, Mike, Marce, Mark, Ottis and Robert.

Audra Fay was employed at Peerless Gear Manufacturing, Clinton, Mich., for 22 years. She retired in 1988. After retirement she spent six years in Michigan exploring garage sales and flea markets with her friends and traveling with her husband Ottis. In 1994, she and Ottis moved to Washington State to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

They called Bellingham, Wash., home for 16 years.  Along with enjoying being a part of the lives of their children and grandchildren, they made many friends whose friendships have endured through time. In 2010, Fay and Ottis moved to Arlington, Wash., and lived next door to another set of grandchildren, giving them  love, guidance and wisdom that only they could provide.

We, her children, called her mom. Her friends called her Fay. But the majority of people that loved her called her Aunt Fay.

Fay loved her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, as much as her children.

Audra Fay was a spiritual woman. She sometimes missed church, but rarely missed reading her bible daily. In her last months, her greatest goal was to finally meet Jesus.

Audra Fay was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and siblings, her son Mike and Mike’s wife Patti (McKee) Cantrell.

Audra Fay is survived by son Dan Cantrell of Bellingham, Wash., (wife Anne and granddaughters Dana Rindal and husband Kevin), great-grandsons Grant and Logan, granddaughter Erika Buse (husband Derek) and great-granddaughters Layla Faye and Lilly Evelyn, daughter Marce Cantrell-Shinall of Beaufort, S.C. (husband Gail Shinall), granddaughters Jan Leigh Edwards (husband Dan Hanselman) and Dawn Marie Edwards, great-grandsons Justin Jayden, Normal Wiley and great-granddaughter Linnea Marie, Mark Cantrell of Carnation, Wash., (wife Barb) grandson Josh Maddox (wife Kristen), granddaughter Jessi Barefield (husband Nathan), great-granddaughters Briley Anne and Reese Camryn, son Ottis Cantrell of Bellingham, Wash., (wife Gwyn), and son Robert Cantrell of Arlington, Wash., and grandsons Ethan Andrew and Noah Robert.

In these last few years, a very special person came into Audra’s life. She was hired as a part-time caregiver, but Rocio aka Rosie, became a true companion to Mom and a vital link between us children and Mom’s medical care and condition. Mom’s last month, living in her home would not have been possible without the selflessness and dedication of this generous, loving person.  Our family will always be grateful to “Rosie.”

Funeral will be held on Saturday, June 25 at Otts Funeral Home with burial at Webb Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Ala.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and employees of Hospice of the Northwest http://www.hospicenw.org, for the care they provided Audra and Ottis in their final days.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to this great origination.
