The City of Tecumseh is sponsoring the “Can Do” Community Food Drive from November 4-10. All donations will remain in the community to help local families in need and be given to the Tecumseh Service Club and God’s Bread Basket.

The drop-off location is the Tecumseh Police Department Lobby between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The following items are suggestions of nutritious canned and dry goods that could be donated: tuna fish, canned meat, beef stew, meat soups, hearty soups, canned spaghetti or pasta, dry or canned beans (kidney, pinto, green, yellow, refried or black beans), fruit, baby food or formula, Ensure or other nutritional supplement drinks, rice, noodles, macaroni, powdered milk, pancake or baking mixes, cereal/oatmeal (including single serving sizes), granola bars and peanut butter and jelly (in plastic jars).

Donors are asked not to supply homemade food or expired products and to avoid items in glass as they often break in transit. No opened containers will be accepted.

For more information, call 424.6555.

Officers in the Tecumseh Police Department are also participating in a “Beards for Bread” competition to raise funds for the Daily Bread of Lenawee. The officers are competing with the Adrian Police Department and Armor Knight Security.

The agencies’ facial hair policy of, “Officers will report for duty clean shaven with no signs of whiskers or stubble” will be temporarily suspended. Those who donate to show support will be allowed to grow a neatly trimmed beard of goatee for the month of November.

As an equivalent show of support, female officers at TPD are allowed to dress down if they wish to participate.

“I think this is a great idea to show our support of the Daily Bread of Lenawee,” said Tecumseh Police Chief Troy Stern. “Any donations that come from this challenge will without question go to a much needed cause.”

Those who would like to support “Beards for Bread” may contact Rhonda at the Daily Bread at 266.0937. Personal donations may be sent to the organization’s P.O. Box 894, Adrian, MI 49221.
