Bertha LaPointe was a ‘great lady, deserved all the accolades’

To the Editor,

I read with interest the article you had about Bertha La Pointe in the January 11 issue. She was a great lady and deserved all the accolades she was given.

Bertha loved children and they loved her. She also taught Sunday school at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church of over 50 years, starting at our old church on Chicago Boulevard and into the new church on Bishop Reed Drive.

As Sunday School Superintendent, I presented her with a 50-year certificate. I don’t remember what year that was, but it was several years before she stopped teaching. My children were taught by her and wanted to go to church, just to be in her class. She taught the first and second grades. Bertha once told me that her pupils were her children.
