Candidate to Tecumseh City Council to host open house October 1

To the Editor,My name is Jason Ziemer and I’m writing to introduce myself. I’m a candidate for Tecumseh City Council in the upcoming November 3 election. My family and I moved here when I retired from the Navy in 2011. My wife, Kim, and I have two daughters and a son in Tecumseh schools, participating in sports and orchestra. Originally from the Portland, Ore., area, I enlisted in the Army National Guard while I was still in high school and served until I was 22, when I joined the Navy. I completed 21 years as an electronics technician in the Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. During my 26 years of service to my country, I also worked as a financial specialist, equal opportunity officer, career counselor, purchasing officer, and drug and alcohol programs advisor. My background in finance and counseling puts me in a strong position to understand the complex issues facing our city, and to deal with those issues effectively and fairly.Following my retirement, my family chose Tecumseh as the right town to start the next phase of our lives. In the process of making the decision to move here, we researched it extensively. We were pleased with the quality of the schools and its convenient location. Tecumseh is big enough to have the amenities we want but small enough that people will smile and say hello. When we first visited here, we fell in love with the thriving farmers market downtown — the people wandering through, getting coffee and donuts at the local shops, and visiting with each other. The inviting, neighborhood feel convinced me this was a community I wanted to live in.Now I would like to serve this community as a member of the city council. As a city council member, I will take a common-sense approach to decision-making and always base my decisions on reliable, well-researched information. I will always be mindful that I represent the people of Tecumseh and it is their tax dollars for which I am responsible. I intend to put the “service” back in “public service.”Now that you know a little about me, I would like to meet you and learn about your interests and concerns. On Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m., we will be holding an open house at the Tecumseh Scout Cabin (located in Elliott Park at the corner of East Kilbuck and Ottawa Streets). I hope to see you there.Jason W. ZiemerTecumseh
