Catholic schools have unfair advantage in sports competition

To the Editor,Here we go again. After the playoff games this past weekend, seven out of the eight Michigan High school football championship games to be played next weekend at Ford field have Catholic schools playing for the championship. It’s basically the same story every year. These Catholic schools recruit and offer scholarships when public schools can’t so Catholic schools have a significant, unfair advantage with the current playoff system. Catholic schools can and do get kids to play on their teams from different cities on their teams, (more or less All-Star teams), when public schools are limited to have players on their teams from the cities the schools are in. Michigan needs to go back to the way it was before where the parochial schools and the public schools had separate playoffs. Until this happens, I don’t feel the current playoff system and the “champions” it crowns truly reflect all the teams in the state.Dave HolgateClinton
