Charles “Charley” William Marks

Charles “Charley” William Marks, 65, of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away on the morning of October 13, 2016 in Adrian, Mich., after receiving extensive medical care following a motorcycle accident that occurred on August 1, 2016.

Charles was preceded in death by both parents Josie Ann Hofer and William Charles Marks, and step-son, Alexander Ustinov.

Survived by wife Nadezhda Ustinov Marks; daughter, Christina Marie Dowling; son, William Charles Marks; step-son, Sergey Ustinov; sisters, Edith Henson, Margaret Miller, Erin Marks-Sullivan; brother, Craig Marks; and step-mothers MaryAnne Marks and Jan Mastri. 

Charles is the grandfather of Dylan, Eoin and Niah Dowling, Tyler Marks, and Nastia Ustinov.

Charley is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and several other loving family members and friends.

Charley was born Aug 2, 1951 in Upland, Calif. He had been a resident of the Tecumseh, Mich., area since 1979.  Charley opened the first video rental store in Tecumseh, Mich., ‘Michigan Video’ in 1980. He worked as a cable splicer for General Telephone before starting a career at the University of Michigan in both telecommunications and information technology for a total of 21 years of service and specialized in audio and video web streaming. Upon retirement, Charley rediscovered his passion for creating and performing music and was working hard to fulfill his dream of the entire world hearing his work. He recently completed the recording of his first country rock album “The Best of CW Calkid with The Soulbacks.”  He also had strong interests in technology, computers and traveling. Charley was very proud to be a new member and secretary of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge, F&AM No. 69 and he also truly enjoyed being a member of the Jackson and Detroit Shriner Motor corps, raising money for charity and participating in the parades.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, from 3-6 p.m. in the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home of Tecumseh, Mich., and followed directly afterwards by funeral services from 6-7 p.m. with Senior Pastor Jon Turner officiating. No burial will take place after the service. The Tecumseh Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 69 will be honoring Charles during the service.

If desired, contributions towards a memorial in Charley’s honor would be appreciated by the family instead of flowers and can be given on the day.
