Charles Dean Schneirla
Charles D. Schneirla, age 85, of Tecumseh, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012. He was born January 25, 1927 in Clinton, the son of Charles and Anna (Daisher) Schneirla. He married Janice Harper in 1950 and sadly, she preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Thelma Martin on November 16, 1997 and she survives.
Charles was a lifelong resident of the area. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church on the Ridge and a member of the Tecumseh VFW Post No.4187. Charles worked as an Inspector at Ford Motor Company of Manchester and Rawsonville for 36 years until retiring in 1988. He also worked at Die Cast in Clinton, and he managed Hadley’s (George’s) Market for many years. Charles was an avid TV sports enthusiast, especially the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and travelling, especially his trip to Alaska. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Thelma, Charles is survived by his son Michael Schneirla of Tecumseh; his daughters Carol (Robert) Kasmer of Lancaster, Pa., Kathy (Doug) Wilcox of Manitou Beach, and Rebecca (Allen) Gabriel of Coltsneck, N.J.; his stepson Steven (Cindy) Martin of Tecumseh; stepdaughters Shirley (Bryan) Van Benschoten of Tecumseh and Lori Martin of Tecumseh; fifteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation for Charles was held on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4-6 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Lloyd Jewett officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m., until the time of the funeral service. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Clinton with full military honors under the auspices of Tecumseh VFW Post No. 4187 and American Legion Post No. 34 Donations may be made to the family.
