Charles Wm. Jameson

The Honorable Charles Wm. Jameson, age 74 of Adrian, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at University of Michigan Hospital in the loving arms of his family after a long battle with Wegener’s disease.He was born December 10, 1939, in Jackson, Mich., to the late Judge Robert and Marie (Terry) Jameson Baker. After graduating from Jackson High School, he attended Adrian College and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University Law School.On June 16, 1962 he married Anne Rebottaro in Tecumseh, Mich., and she survives.Judge Jameson served as Probate Judge in Lenawee County for 12 years retiring in 2005. Prior to that, he was in private practice of law for 28 years. A 50-year member of the Michigan State Bar Association, he served in many capacities in the legal community including as President of both the Southeastern Michigan Probate Judges Association and the Lenawee County Bar Association, as well as serving as Master Judge for the State of Michigan since retirement.Within the community, Judge Jameson served as president of the boards of The Salvation Army and the Community Action Agency, and was Chairman of the Board for the Lenawee County Democratic Party. He was a Free Mason and a Shriner with Tecumseh Lodge NO. 69 F & AM, and was a volunteer driver who transported children to the Shriners Hospital. He was a member of North Adrian Grange and was awarded Citizen of the Year. He was also a member of the NAACP and recipient of their Citizen of the Year award in 2005. An active volunteer for the Salvation Army in disaster relief, Judge Jameson assisted for Hurricanes Rita, Gustaf, and Ike, and also worked the fires in the upper peninsula of Michigan. He enjoyed Indy and NASCAR races and worked at Turn 3 at MIS on the clean-up crew. He was a national competitor at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in his sand rail, “Sand Rail Justice.” He was a private pilot, hunter, and fly fisherman. As a gifted artist himself, Judge Jameson was a founder of the Lenawee County Visual Arts Association and a supporter of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra and Croswell Opera House. He was a member of the Lenawee Country Club, Devil’s Lake Yacht Club, and a 30-year member of AA. In addition to Anne, his wife of almost 52 years, he is survived by their children: Charles Wm. Jameson II, Leigh (Henry) Jameson-Heise, Robert (Dana) Jameson, all of Adrian, and Jessica (Bill) Chesser of Manitou Beach; grandchildren: Nicholas (Ashley), Amanda and Emilee Heise; Taylor, Jenika, and Chloe Jameson; and William and Jameson Chesser; great granddaughter, Kennedy Heise; brothers, Thomas (Sel) Steiner of Jackson and Gerald (Jocye) Steiner of Adrian; and step-mother, Esther Baker of Holmes Beach, Fla.Funeral services took place Monday, May 5, 2014, at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian with Judge Timothy Pickard and Pastor Scott Winstead presiding.
