City crews demolish hillside vault at Brookside Cemetery
A well-recognized city landmark that has stood on the hillside at Brookside Cemetery since 1882 was removed by city crews Tuesday after a study found the granite face of the building was a hazard and too costly to repair. The vault, however, proved to be stronger than first thought when steel rods and other reinforcements were uncovered during the demolition.
