Clinton’s boys fall 45-38 against Adrian in first ever meeting

In the first varsity boys basketball contest between Southeastern Conference member Adrian and Tri-County Conference member Clinton, featured at Adrian College’s Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Friday, Jan. 2, the hosting Maples beat the visiting Redskins 45-38.Clinton head coach Mike Ruhl believed the Redskins had every opportunity to win the game but dropped the ball offensively.“We had every opportunity to win the game. We played good enough defense overall, but lacked good player movement and ball movement on offense,” Ruhl said. “We’ll have to bounce back and learn from it heading into the heart of league play.”The Redskins were down 15-20 at the half. However, Clinton increased momentum in the second half and tied the score twice, 20-20 and 27-27, but was unable to take the lead. The third quarter closed with the Maples leading 29-28.Ryan Karapas led Clinton with 19 points and five rebounds. Ryon Luzier added eight points and five rebounds; Collin Poore, seven points, four rebounds and three assists; and Jared Sackett, four points, six rebounds and four assists.Clinton was scheduled to travel to Summerfield on Tuesday and is at home against Morenci on Friday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
