Clinton beats Onsted in regional semifinal, falls 3-2 against Napoleon in championship

CLINTON — Being unable to produce one more run in the Division 3 Regional softball final against Napoleon on Saturday, June 8, Clinton’s varsity softball team ended its season at home with a 3-2 loss to the Pirates.Napoleon scored two runs in the first inning while the Redskins scored their first run in the top of the third. The Pirates also added a run in the frame and held a 3-1 lead heading in to the final inning.Clinton was limited to just one run in the seventh inning for the final score with Ashleigh Donahey recording an RBI double.The Redskins manufactured 11 hits to Napoleon’s six.Sydney Coe earned the pitching win for the Pirates.Clinton freshman Renee Hoffman allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over six innings.Donahey (2-for-4), Caitlyn Schuler (2-for-3) and Hoffman (2-for-3) each had two hits for Clinton while Megan Nelson (RBI), Madelyn Stapnowski, Hayley Turk and Lindsey Branscum each added a hit.Clinton defeated Onsted 5-1 in the semifinal with freshman Renee Hoffman earning the win from the circle. She pitched all seven innings, striking out 11 and giving up just one earned run on three hits.Hayley Turk had two hits, scored two runs and drove in three to lead the Redskins’ offense. Nelson had two RBI singles, and Donahey scored two runs.Napoleon defeated Dansville 4-0 in the other semifinal game.The Redskins finished with an overall record of 27-11.
