Clinton beats Patriots in four sets

First year Clinton High School head varsity volleyball coach Karlee Bruck was pleased with her team’s performance against Tri-County Conference foe Britton Deerfield on Thursday, Sept. 27.The Redskins split their first two games but came back to win the final two sets for the overall victory.Clinton improved to 6-6-2 overall and 4-2 in the TCC with the win.“I thought that my girls played great tonight!” said Bruck. “It was really evident that all of the hard work that we have been putting into practice has really started to pay off. Particularly I thought that our defense has improved significantly which in turn has lead to improvements in other aspects of our game as well. Everyone did a nice job tonight and I really enjoyed watching the girls play as a team!”Clinton opened with a 25-20 victory but lost 25-21 in the second match. The Redskins finished with wins of 25-14 and 25-12 to seal the TCC victory.Leading the Redskins were: Payton Hoelzer (scored 23 points on serve with two aces, 27 digs, 16 serve receptions); Keely Quiring (scored 5 points on serve, 9 digs, 9 serve receptions); Rachel Cornish (scored 4 points on serve, 4 digs, 17 kills, 8 solo blocks); Mary Anna Burnham (scored 11 points on serve, 6 digs, 6 serve receptions); Leigha Sanborn (15 kills, 2 solo blocks); Elizabeth Barkel (scored 10 points on serve with 3 aces, 11 digs, 6 kills, 15 serve receptions, 1 solo block); Kris Forest (5 digs, 7 kills, 1 serve reception); Shannon Hill (8 assists, 1 kill, 5 solo blocks) and Abi Schaffner (scored 7 points on serve with 2 aces, 28 assists, 12 digs, 1 kill).
