Clinton beats Summerfield to remain undefeated
Dutchmen. Bobcats. Trojans. Bulldogs. Doesn’t seem to matter what team Clinton’s varsity football team faces this year. The Redskins have but two teams, Sand Creek’s Aggies and Britton Deerfield’s Patriots, remaining to defeat to record a perfect regular season.Clinton defeated Summerfield 57-21 on Friday, Oct. 11, to remain undefeated and improve to 7-0 heading into the eighth game on the 2013 schedule at Sand Creek.Clinton jumped out to a 43-7 lead by the end of the first half and was never in threat of losing the contest to the Bulldogs in the second half.Two of Clinton’s players, Collin Poore and TJ Baker, scored three touchdowns each. Collin Poore scored on runs of nine and one yard and recorded a big 45-yard punt return, Baker scored on runs of 26, 41 and eight yards.Brett Tschirhart added a touchdown on a 71-yard run while Mathew Sexton scored on a 52-yard reception from Baker. Clinton place-kicker Gannon Nelson converted all seven of his extra-point kicks while Jared Sackett ran in a two-point conversion. Baker completed 10-of-12 passes for 196 yards and added 100 yards rushing on five carries. Sexton had four receptions good for 124 yards. Dylan Spurlock (2-39), Reid Clark (2-13), Collin Poore (1-20) and Sackett (1-0) also added receptions. Brett Tschirhart (2-87), Collin Poore (7-20), Sexton (2-16) and KC Clegg (1-10) added rushing yards. Clinton was led defensively by Nathan Kaszuba’s 10 tackles. Adding tackles were Ryan Karapas (2), Baker (5), Sexton (6, TFL), Sackett (1), Ryan Piatt (1), Clark (1), Collin Poore (3), Clegg (9), Tschirhart (9, TFL), Noah Poore (6, TFL), Seth Sylvester (5, TFL), Griffin (8), Keagan Ward (2, TFL), Zach Amsdill (5, TFL, 3 sacks), Sullivan (4), Aaron Fowler (2), Tanner Bowles (1), Spurlock (1) and Nelson (1). Clinton’s Offensive Player of the Week was Baker while defensive honors went to Nate Kaszuba. The Special Teams Player of the Week was Sackett. Seth Sylvester was named Clinton’s Red Army Player of the Week. Clinton (5-0 Tri-County Conference) can guarantee a share of the conference championship with a victory at Sand Creek.
