Clinton boys run 2nd at D3 regional

Clinton’s varsity boys track team placed second behind Dundee in the Division 3 Regional at Erie Mason on Friday, May 15, The Redskins finished second among 16 competing schools with 89 points while the champions scored 140.50 points.Placing first for Clinton were: Noah Poore (long jump, 20’-10.25”), Mathew Sexton (100-meter, 11.02), Tyler Underwood (200-meter, 22.8), the 800-meter relay team (Sexton, Ken DeShano, Poore, Underwood, 1:32.3) and the 400-meter relay team (Zech Johnston, Underwood, Poore, Sexton, 44.8). Other athletes who scored for Clinton included Deshano (3rd) and Riley Mclaughlin (5th) in the shot put, Underwood (6th) and Huntter Trubiano (8th) in the high jump, Dominic Rudd (4th) in pole vault, Trubiano (2nd) in the 110- meter hurdles and (3rd) in the 300-meter hurdles, Brady Fowler (7th) in the 3200-meter and the 1600-meter relay team of Trubiano, Fowler, Brad Gilbert and DeShano (5th). Clinton was scheduled to compete in the Tri-County Conference Championships on Wednesday, May 20, at Britton-Deerfield high school.Clinton had three girls qualify for the state finals meet at Comstock Park High School in Grand Rapids. Emily Couture qualified by placing second in the discus (102’8” personal best). Amanda Schaare placed second in the shot put (33’9”) and Abby Elwart in the pole vault (8’6”). Arielle Hitch just missed qualified for the state meet in both hurdle events, finishing third in each, while running her fastest times. In the 100-meter hurdles she ran 17.06 seconds and 51.66 in the 300’s. Couture placed fourth for Clinton in the shot put, (32’8” personal best), Schaare earned sixth place in discus (85’7” personal best), Maggie Korte was sixth in the long jump (14’5.25” personal best), Nikole Hartung was seventh in the high jump (4’3” personal best), the 3,200-meter relay team (Shianne Muessig, Hartung, Abby Smith, Hailey Skiff) earned fifth place, the 800 relay team (Brittney Jones, Kacy Campbell, Jessica Burt, Korte) placed eighth, the 400 relay team (Jones, Campbell, Burt, Hitch) finished sixth to round out the scoring.
