Clinton boys win regional track title for first time since 1982-’83 season

Clinton’s varsity boys track team won the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) Region 23 championship on Friday, May 16, held at Erie Mason High School, for the first time since the 1982-83 season.Clinton’s boys scored 97 points for first place while Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard was second with 91 points. Dundee placed third with 87 points.Clinton’s girls placed 12th at the regional event with 11 points, led by Emily Couture’s second place finish in the discus event. Adrian-Madison won the regional title with 137 points while Erie-Mason was second with 81. Blissfield’s girls placed third with 76 points.The Redskins’ boys also picked up four regional titles with Noah Poore winning the long jump (19’7”); Mathew Sexton the 100-meter dash (11.34); the 800-meter relay, with the team of Ryan Piatt, Sexton, Poore and Tom Vinton (1:34.2); and the 1600-meter relay, with the team of Piatt, Vinton, Blake Rogers and Sexton (3:32.9).Second place finishes were recorded by Clinton’s Zach Amsdill (shot put, 43’1”) and Hunter Trubiano (300-meter hurdles, 43.01). Also placing second for Clinton was its 400-meter relay team of Poore, Sexton, Jared Sackett and Vinton with a time of 44.84.A third place long-jump of 19’1.25 was recorded by Clinton’s Sackett.Placing fourth for the Redskins were Nate Kaszuba (discus, 123’3”); Ryan Piatt (high jump, 5’11”, 800-meter, 2:09); and Tom Vinton (200-meter, 24.00).Placing seventh for Clinton were Sackett (200-meter, 25.5); Brady Fowler (3200-meter (10:47) and Blake Rogers (400-meter, 54.1).For the Redskins’ girls, Couture saved her best effort of the season for the regional discus event to advance to Grand Rapids for the State Finals Track meet. She recorded a throw of 98’ 2” to finish as regional runner-up. Arielle Hitch placed sixthfor the Redskins in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 18.45.
