Clinton earns TCC win over Morenci

Clinton’s varsity girls basketball team picked up its fourth Tri-County Conference victory of the season by defeating the Morenci Bulldogs 49-38 on Friday, Jan. 25. Leading the way for Clinton was Kristen Forest, scoring 16 points while also collecting three rebounds. Shannon Hill and Leigha Sanborn each scored nine points for the Redskins while junior co-captain Elizabeth Barkel and Melissa Dowell each grabbed seven rebounds.Clinton defeated Ann Arbor Greenhills 68-52 on Monday, Jan. 28, and improved to 5-10 overall.After the first quarter, the game was tied 15-15 but by the end of the first half Clinton took a lead it would never relinquish. Clinton outscored the Greenhills 22-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.Barkel led the way for the Redskins, scoring 22 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Forest scored 12 points while senior Danielle Nation (6 assists), Haley Turk and Shannon Hill each scored nine points for Clinton. The Redskins lost 58-37 against Sand Creek in a contest on Tuesday, Jan. 22.The Aggies took a 17-10 first quarter lead and increased their advantage to 34-19 by the end of the first half. Clinton battled back to an eight-point deficit in the third quarter but that was as close as they would get.Forest led the Redskins with 14 points and six rebounds while Barkel had a double-double, scoring 10 points and hauling down 10 rebounds.
