Clinton earns two wins in home wrestling quad
Clinton’s varsity wrestling team recorded two victories on Wednesday, Jan. 15, with the Redskins losing just one bout all night.
Clinton defeated Pittsford 84-0 and Vandercook Lake 67-6.
The first match against Pittsford was highlighted by a huge come-from-behind win by freshman Josh Brown at 215-pounds. He was down 7-1 and fought off his back to claim the pin in the third period.
Against Vandercook Lake it was more of the same as the Redskins got on a roll and saw Nicholas Rolland use that momentum to help claim a 3-2 victory in an overtime tiebreaker.
Clinton’s Hunter Mellinger, Zech Johnston, Nick Lacoss, Christian Ford, Tanner Phillips, Jeffrey Rolland, Nicholas Rolland, Kamdan Ward, Keagan Ward, and Brett Tschirhart all finished 2-0 on the night.
The Redskins traveled to Fenton on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a team tournament featuring Division 1-2 schools and went 3-2 for the day to place fifth.
Clinton picked up a 63-18 win over Fenton and a 48-21 victory over Midland Dow.
Zech Johnston and Kamdan Ward both went 5-0 for Clinton while Evan Shovels went 3-0. Christian Ford, Tanner Phillips, Huntter Trubiano, Jeffrey Rolland, Keagan Ward and Brett Tschirhart all recorded three wins for the Redskins.
Clinton has a pair of wrestlers representing the Redskins at the County All-Star meet on Friday, Jan. 24. Zech Johnston (119) and Kamdan Ward (160) will represent Clinton in the meet. The two were selected based on their accomplishments so far this year. Johnson has a record of 24-7 while Kamdan is 16-3.
Jeffrey Rolland, Keagan Ward, and Brett Tschirhart were selected as alternates in their weight classes.
“This is a big honor in the tough Lenawee county wrestling community and we want to wish them good luck Friday,” said Clinton coach Jeff Rolland.
