Clinton edges Morenci by two points

Clinton’s varsity boys basketball team defeated Morenci 59-57 on Friday, Feb. 6, and moved into first place in the Tri-County Conference (TCC).“In our big games this year [Adrian, Madison], we’ve looked flat because the pressure made us try to do a little too much individually,” said Clinton coach Mike Ruhl. “Tonight, we played loose and together. That helped us score consistently against a good team. Our defense came through, as well, when we needed it.”Clinton went into the fourth quarter leading 45-36 but the Bulldogs scored 21 points to Clinton’s 14 to pull within two points of the lead.Ryan Karapas had 25 points, six rebounds and three steals for Clinton; Jared Sackett, 13 points and seven assists; Collin Poore (7 rebounds, 6 assists) and Ryon Luzier (4 rebounds) added 10 points each.Clinton improved to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in the TCC with the win.On Tuesday, Feb. 3, Clinton handed Summerfield a 49-25 loss. “We wanted tough defense, and we wanted to play loose. That's what we did!” said Ruhl.Karapas finished with 21 points and four rebounds while Luzier had 17 points and four rebounds.
