Clinton expects large crowds for 41st Annual Fall Festival

It’s been 41 years since Clinton hosted its first Fall Festival. The idea in 1973 was to attract business for local merchants. In 2014 the village is expected to be packed with three days of music, food, arts and crafts, plus special events.On Friday, Sept. 26, through Sunday, Sept. 28, the festival has something to interest every member of the family. Beyond food and entertainment, non-profit organizations offer demonstrations and activities to educate and entertain.Lost Arts are revisited at the Smith Kimball Center every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Ann Arbor Hands-on Museum will also be on site each day, as well as the Woman’s Club Bazaar.Tate Park hosts a carnival every day from noon until 10 p.m., with a live animal show and petting zoo from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.Besides the daily activities, which include arts and crafts vendors, there are special daily activities. The Fall Festival Queen will be crowned after a Saturday afternoon competition from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.A classic car show on Saturday at Clinton High School (CHS) fulfills dreams of the perfect car. A softball tournament starts the day at Tate Park on Saturday at 8 a.m.A Mini Pedal Tractor Pull on Saturday starts with registration at noon and competition at 1 p.m. The Saturday rodeo at Tate Park gives people a chance to see cowboys in action beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Fall Festival Grand Parade takes to the streets of Clinton on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.Food is a big part of the Fall Festival, and this year there are many choices offered. An apple pie and caramel apple sale will be at St. Dominic Hall every day between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a pretzel and cookie booth will be at the Clinton United Church of Christ.A roast beef dinner is at the Clinton United Church of Christ on Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday there will be a luncheon and side dishes sale at Clinton United Church of Christ from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A food, wine and beer tasting featuring specialties of Southeast Michigan is at Tate Park on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.Music is in the air in Clinton during the Fall Festival with a stage at Clinton Middle School (CMS) and at a second stage outside St. Dominic Hall. The Golden Griffon Stringtet perform at the Smith Kimball Community Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.Music at the bandshell at CMS on Friday features Zumba with Curves, Clinton Kid Talent Review, Ebb Tide, Colors the Clown family show, Joyce, John and Friends — music from the movies, Dixie Cups Dixieland Band, and Larry Rothman and Pickin’ Roots.Saturday features Jazzercise with Melissa, Tecumseh Players, Chordiology Group, a variety show, the Queen Pageant, and T.J. Craven. A church service starts the day on Sunday, then the One Voice Choir, We and She, Ear Candy, and the Dan Kesterke Band.The second stage at St. Dominic’s Hall on Saturday features Frank, Kari and Olive, Katherine and Jack, 2014 Fall Festival Queen Juli Lancaster, Genevieve Rose, Krazi Karen’s Karaoke Kids, and Keith Dalton. Sunday Krazi Karen, Jimmy and Friends start the day followed by Genevieve Rose, and “Last Exit.”Parking is available at CHS, in the Tecumseh Products Parking lot and on village side streets. A shuttle runs from CHS to downtown to Tate Park on Saturday and Sunday from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m.The Fall Festival is made possible through community support and area sponsors.
