Clinton to face Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in District final

Ten straight wins have been recorded by Clinton’s varsity football team, sending the undefeated Redskins into the district final at Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central (9-1) on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.Clinton opened the 2014 Michigan High School Athletic Association state playoffs with a dominating 42-6 victory over Manchester in the pre-district game at Clinton on Friday, Oct.31. Collin Poore scored a pair of touchdowns for the Redskins, rushing for 202 yards on 23 carries. He also added a couple of two-point conversion runs. Noah Poore totaled 40 yards of rushing and ran into the end zone twice for Clinton touchdowns. Mathew Sexton added 108 yards on 15 carries, scored a touchdown and added an extra point run for Clinton. David Chantelois, Zach Nienow, Austin Popp, Ken DeShano, Aaron Fowler and Ethan Vaughn did a fine job blocking up front, according to Clinton coach Scott McNitt.Defensively, the Redskins shut down the usually high scoring Dutchman offense with a “tremendous team performance,” said McNitt. Ryan Karapas, Sexton and Chantelois had interceptions. Chantelois returned his interception 44 yards for a touchdown.Blake Rogers recovered a Manchester fumble to win the turnover battle. Karapas (3), Steve Laurel (2), Sexton (5), Jared Sackett (3), Jason Ahrens (3), Collin Poore (2), Noah Saren (2), Rogers (8), Ethan Barrett (3), Brad Gilbert (2), Noah Poore (7), Seth Sylvester (5), DeShano (7), Vaughn (3), Popp (4), Chantelois (5), Fowler (4) and Nienow (5) had tackles. Clinton’s Offensive Player of the Game was Collin Poore while Blake Rogers was named Defensive Player of the Game. Noah Poore was named Special Teams Player while Kaden Kelly was Red Army Player.
