Clinton girls second at state bowling championship

Surpassing even its own expectations, Clinton’s varsity girls bowling team advanced to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 4 state bowling championship on Friday, March 6, in Grand Ledge and finished second in the state.Clinton faced St. Louis in the championship match and lost 1,197-1,072. The Redskins qualified eighth with a score of 2,878 and defeated Rogers City 1,087-1,057 to start match play. Clinton followed with an 1,111-1,072 victory over Burton Bendle in the semifinal.Bowling for the Redskins’ team scores were Ashley Richardson, Alissa Ayling, Amanda Briggs, Elizabeth Heimerdinger and Miranda Porath. Samantha Jones was an alternate.Heimerdinger qualified fourth as an individual with a score of 1,179 and defeated Vandercook Lake’s Lillian Warner 336-298 in the round of 16. Heimerdinger advanced to the round of eight but lost her following match 364-353 to Portland St. Patrick’s Madison Schrauben.Also competing as an individual was Porath who finished 24th with a score of 1,043.
