Clinton ties Onsted, loses PK shootout

After tying visiting Onsted 2-2 at the end of the first half of its Thursday, Sept. 17, varsity boys soccer match, Clinton lost the game in a penalty kick (PK) shootout.Luke Hayes scored the first goal nine minutes into the match but Onsted tied the game 1-1 approximately 12 minutes later.The Wildcats scored again with 10 minutes remaining in the first half but Clinton’s Huntter Trubiano attacked the net for a goal five minutes later to end the half tied 2-2.Tolen Nelson scored 10 minutes into the second half and Onsted scored with 13 minutes left in the game. After regulation time ran out the teams went into a PK shootout and Onsted bested the Redskins for the win. Jesse Fisher had 12 saves in goal for Clinton. The Redskins recorded nine shots on goal.Clinton lost 3-2 against at Lenawee Christian School (LCS) on Monday. LCS scored in the first two minutes of the game. Clinton came back at the 25-minute mark with Trubiano scoring on an assist by Nelson. Mitchell Drabicki scored half way through the first half to give the Redskins a 2-1 lead. The Cougars scored two more goals to secure the win in the second half.Fisher had seven saves in goal for Clinton. “This team has so much potential. They have a great passing game and when they slow it down and play their game anything is possible,” said Clinton coach Marla Erickson.Clinton will play next at Columbia Central on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
