Council needs study session on backyard chicken proposal
To the Editor, It has been six months since you [Tecumseh City Council] had a study session on having backyard chickens in Tecumseh. In that meeting, residents spoke to you about what they have learned and explained to you the facts surrounding this issue. As well as a resident suggesting for you to not take their word for it, but to talk to surrounding cities and townships about their experiences with backyard chickens. At the conclusion of your study session you [council] decided that “council agreed that they needed time to review the materials and another study session before making decisions.”After the discussion was over you [council] concluded that “another study session was needed and requested the manager to gather more information.” So according to your [council’s] own admission you [council] did not have enough information to make a decision about this proposed ordinance. Yet, two months later, without having another study session, you [council] voted on the ordinance. What a sad time in Tecumseh that our council now doesn’t keep their word about properly researching on how to cast their vote. Mr. Baker, you and the council need to go back and do what you said you needed to do before making this decision. You need to go back and have another study session and reconsider this ordinance. Not doing so, will only further show how out of touch you are with the residents of Tecumseh and how little you care about the job you are supposed to be doing on the council.Tommy HawkinsTecumseh
